In a previous life working on aircraft we'd grease the similar moving parts in the landing gear before and after washing them. It was a pain but it keeps soap and everything else from working its way into the joints.

As ugly as it looks, it's better to have the grease coming out of the joints. That way you know grease is protecting those pins and bushings from all the shit outside. Thanks for the comment Jim!

We had one of those in Texas. God how I miss seeing that truck roll up. He carried snacks that you could buy too! It was a racket but totally worth it...

if you overgrease the swing you will blow out the seal. and you have to split the machine to replace it.

If you have any intention of spending any time in this industry and your boss doesn't provide one, spend ~200 bucks to buy a cordless grease gun. Hopefully you're on a battery system already which offers a grease gun. I was lucky and CRyobi's costs a lot less than many other brands and I found a factory reconditioned one on sale for 85 bucks at direct tools.

I need to do a video on a paddlewheel scraper. That was the machine where I came home and told my wife I was buying an electric grease gun that night. Even with an electric grease gun it takes about a half hour to grease one of those machines fully.

Always keep a nail in your grease gun case or bag to clean ou the zerks hole its better than trying to find a stick in the woods lol

I used to keep a small flat head screw driver in my kit for this exact reason.

Another name for the dog bone I've heard many of times would be the H Link just thought I'd throw it out there

Not trying to sound like a smart ass (I mean that genuinely), I've been told that my entire career and I have yet to come across someone who has run into that issue. I'm not saying it's not possible on some very specific models but it's not the problem everyone makes it out to be.

No, they have bushings in them that wear out over time

I’ve never heard that called a side link. Probably wrong but we called it the knuckle links. Plural. Lol.
