fantastic grinding tutorial! I'd wish i had this one when i started out... What i would like to add is if you have a means to join in any a skating-sports-group like ice hockey, inline hockey or roller-derby or the like, then i think that this is a perfect start to skating (and prop. wanna do this as early as possible) - you'll learn to skate, jump, fall instinctively and safely... I would guess that a lot of the pro-skaters started out like this.... Keep on rolling, guys and girls!

The best tutorial I have seen so far. I used to grind when I was 16. Now with 42 years, I came back to grinding again a few weeks ago. I bought myself the amazing IQONAG15 Montreal edition and some Triple8 protection gear. I did not watch this video before, but I actually started learning again just like shown in this video by instinct. I underestimated the risks and started to roll on a mini half pipe. Broke my right middle finger and smashed my backhead against the concrete. That protection helmet saved me. Without that helmet I would have been in the hospital 100%. I can’t underline how important at least a helmet is. Especially for returners like me who think they are still 16 😅

Great tutorial! But one of the most important points for starting to slide on the soulplate is missing: put the your weight on the heel of the soulfoot and not on the front. The only tutorial, that has ever mentioned this very important point was a guest blader on Braille Skateboarding of all places. 🙈

Same, it's funny sometimes, when ppl see me with all the protective gear they do think I'm a beginner and I can see they are a bit frightened when I approach them fast. But then when I make some pro move they immediately relax.

I watched this when I first started skating 6 months ago and was not ready at that time for any of the grinds. I have progressed somewhat and rewatched it to try and get a handle on some of the early grinds. I have been working on those first easy grinds and making some progress, though my 62 year old knees are not what they used to be and jumping is quite a challenge. Thanks for the inspiration from all your videos, I love to see you and your friends skate, and I also like it when you guys share your fears on some of the "spicy" spots. Its nice to know that even lifelong skaters can still have some fear and overcome it. Thanks again!

This is great! I agree that asking other skaters for tips in person is always a good idea. Sometimes those who are skilled, talented, and experienced aren't always the best at breaking down the basics as they just can't remember being a beginner. You have done a great job at breaking down those important early steps. I started learning grinds when I was in my mid-40s and now I am 50. Wearing all the pads sucks but so does falling and getting hurt so I wear the pads. I seem to be stuck at these beginning grinds but I am having a good time trying! Good luck with your channel. I think you have a good thing going and I see your subscriber list growing which is well deserved!

Hey, I got back to skating after 15 years, and I am finally felling alive again. Thanks so much for this tutorial it is great to refresh my memory, It took me 15 min of skating and one fall to order the protections next day delivery ^^ When I fell now that I am 90kg it feels much worse than when I was a kid ^^. I have a quick question if you don't mind, for some reason I am having problem with sliding properly on the tube in the local skate park. I tried to put some candle Wax as was the only thing I got at home, and it didn't really help much. There is any specific product or advice you could suggest to overcome this issue. It might be my bad technique, or very old rollers, not sure :(

I’m 40 but I can skate pretty well. Used to speed skate when I was younger, but never gridded anything. I’m wondering if I’m too old to old to learn to grind? I’m also 6’ and 260 is that too big ? I do have a pair of razor shifts that I’m comfortable skating in .

Amazing tutorial! Can you give any advice on how to keep the body on top of a box ledge instead of outward (specifically a mizou)? I have been working every day for weeks trying to correct it and my body won’t stop leaning to the outside causing my grinds to only last a few seconds..ive tried fixing my posture doing stalls but the amount of effort and energy it takes to get to the correct stance is impossible to replicate going full speed..any thoughts? Thanks!
@iRollerboot2 жыл бұрын
Great question, it’s a challenge. A big part of staying on the ledge longer is bending your soul foot ankle more onto the ledge (but not so much as to slip the foot off) …it’s a bit of a tightrope act. I’ll have to make a video detailing this more clearly.

@iRollerboot2 жыл бұрын
Hmmmmmm. Great question. I think it’s probably easier going from big to small. Big wheels carry much more speed and your stopping game needs to be on point. Smaller wheels seem to be quite a bit easier to control.
