I almost want to do a response video to this... When I was learning royales the cue I was taught for balance is to make sure the backslide foot stays behind your back shoulder. This guarantees it's always behind the balance point for a backslide and almost naturally pushes the torso forward into the skeezy royale position. The 5 biggest tips to learning any new grind: 1. Stall more 2. Stall more 3. Stall more 4. Stall more 5. Stall more. It helps to start on an unwaxed/unpainted curb or concrete stair also. Step up into the stall at whatever speed you're comfortable at, get use to the position, and just step up faster and faster until you're hopping off one foot and then eventually jumping into the position. People, especially beginners, want to rush into things too fast. Stall more, stall where you can't slide until you're completely comfortable getting into the grind, then stall somewhere you can slide until you have it stable. Baby steps the entire time.

Couldn’t agree more. Widening the stance and keeping that back foot behind the trailing shoulder will only add stability. Great points Daniel. 👍👍👍 stall stall stall stall stall. Too many beginners are trying switchups before they can cleanly STALL the grind. Lol

I'm going to make a confession as a 39yr back to blading skater, Royales never did click with me. I could land some here and there but as a whole they were mysterious. Recently I've been studying some clips to understand why but the standing squad thing in this video just seem to resonate with me, I've stalled it numerous times but that just made it all make sense, at least in my head and it felt right. Can't wait to hit my box tomorrow!!!

Well unfortunately I've skated once since this. Weather was a mess and now unfortunately I'm fighting covid. Though in that sesh I was able to get a few which is great for me but still felt I needed more practice before commenting. Definitely felt it's a huge step in the right direction.

The best advice I ever got was to think of it less like a frontside and more like a soul grind. So for frontsides I always lead with my right foot. So before that advice, I was trying to royale by starting a frontside and then dragging my left foot in... and I always just slipped backwards / sideways. But when I soul grinded, I would put most of my weight on my right foot. Likewise, I realised that my friends advice was, for a royale, put most my weight on my right foot but in a balanced way. And so I practiced in my shoes for a few weeks at random times, getting comfortable, and almost as soon as I tried it in my skates, I got it. This was about 30 years ago. But yes, your advice is perfect. It's pretty similar to what I did.

Thanks for the video, currently learning royales. Wasn't quite sure how to go about 'stepping up' to a royale like I've done with the other grinds I've learned. This definitely clarifies how to do that. Hopefully this will help a lot so I don't have to worry about just going for it and slipping out 9 times out of 10.

So I NEVER managed to understand this, especially backside. It always felt really sketchy and given the fact I'm in my 30s and blading is new to me, I genuinely thought I wouldn't get it. Went to an indoor park and found a ledge and practiced jumping on with focussing on rotating during the jump and forcing my knees to continue the rotation and face the backwards lean position and I actually managed to land a few! Amazing tutorial!

Thanks for tutorial! As 42 yo, which came back to skating 4 years ago since 2001 royals have been mission impossible for me. Last year managed to make it, but I’m still struggling with “step 5” jump on the royals with boot down rather than tilting from frontside/shifty (doing frame only) motion.. I will be trying put all together again and let’s hope after 100+ tryouts, something will start looking good. Also I’ve notice to struggle to sit down low once I’m locked on the grind.. Any idea how to improve that? Last question 🙋🏼‍♂️ should my back be straight line (like sitting 🪑 on the chair) or it can be little bend? Sorry for long comment. Great video and tutorial 👊🏼💪🏼🍻

Also i wouldn’t worry too terribly much about keeping you back erect. I think it’s generally advisable to have a good posture, but there’s clearly capable skaters who skate in a different manner.

I have a question, which one is easier to learn royale? Ledge or rails? Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
@okthisisthelasttimeipromise
@okthisisthelasttimeipromise 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a great question. I honestly think this is one of those things where everyone is different. Ledges usually offer a bit less risk, and beginners tend to gravitate towards them because of that. Which makes sense. But then there’s the factor of wheelbite to consider. It’s one of those things that beginners have to figure out for themselves. Just like some experienced skaters love handrails and hate ledges and vice Versa.

@@iRollerboot I think so. They use a material that gets extra cold when it's wet and evaporates slowly. I always wear one of their caps under my helmet in the summer.
