Indeed you must waterproof before tiling. Grout is epoxy or of sealed type when dry. But still water may penetrate over time so a tanking waterproofing process before tiling is essential to a watertight multilayered barrier to the extremes of water and movement over time. Good luck. Check with your local building code for regulations and standards. Or a waterproofing company will help you out ☎️

Roy! Top man! You are a legend. How does a legend remove old grout line in a pool? Have been using a scraper and it take forever. Other have suggested let it all soak in acid and then power wash the lot. But that also disolves the adhesive and makes the tiles fall off. What would your advise me please?

Dude is a fuggin beast with the grout float. I have been forcefully stuffing the mud in multiple times and directions. I have never done a pool, I mostly stick to kitchen and bath-showers and tub surrounds. What type of grout are you using? What grout is typically specified for underwater install down under?

Hi, is that epoxy grout or normal water repellant grout?

I'm not sure what Roy used, but I got quotes from three companies for my pool tile. All three listed some form of epoxy grout. Just conversationally, one of the sales guys told us that the epoxy grout costs a little more, but water-resistant and waterproof grouts you can use in bathrooms and kitchens aren't the same as epoxy. Epoxy is meant for submersed applications and has chemical resistance and other things that I don't really remember. I just got the impression pools need epoxy grout.

Black grout ! I hate using black grout ! Done lots of epoxy lately in black and it’s Better than cement wipe off believe it or not ! Takes skill to do pools
