When I listen to the few you-tubers like you who share their info quickly, cleanly and effortlessly it makes me wonder why so many are so wordy and boring and slow slow slow. On top of an award for accuracy and quality of your information you deserve another award for clear, succinct, technical communication! Thank you so much! It was a pleasure to listen to you!

If you want to limit haze when grouting, sponge the tile once on each side of the sponge in one direction in a short distance, this way there is hardly any haze, I find it easier, try it out.

Great video! Why only 15 comments??? More informative than the 5 other videos I watched. This video told and showed me (a noob DIYer) exactly what I needed to know. The circular motion and medium pressure for initially loosening haze and shaping the joint (and evenly distributing the pigment in all the joints!) was critical--he describes this well. A couple years ago I tiled a small bathroom floor, and wound up with uneven coloring of the joints because I did not know this. Thanks Family Handyman--I'm now a fan.

I just need to grout a few spots where the tiles will show under the toe kick area of the new base cabinets I built. There was no tile under the old base cabinets. I just laid tile in the void area so the cabinets will sit level. The whole floor eventually will need to be redone; 44' of bad drain line was replaced by previous owner on condition to sell and slab wasn't properly leveled in the places it was repoured. They did a half-ass job on laying down the tile afterwards.

Great info. But what about the fact that because some of the tiles are chipped the grout goes into the indentation and makes it appear messy?

I have a question if you don';t mind, do you have to spread the grout over the whole tile?
@scottydelt4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting! Great tips and love the production quality. I have one question. You mention to wait 30 minutes before the 1st round of cleanup. This can be dangerous, as the grout that is still sitting on top of the tile can harden substantially in 30 minutes, and be difficult to remove with just a sponge. Shouldn't a sponge cleanup take place immediately after or even simultaneously to grouting the joints, leaving just a haze on the surface of the tiles, then waiting 30 minutes to remove just the haze?
@chrisphillips22774 жыл бұрын
I have the same question! Other videos show sponge wipe immediately following application.
@scottydelt4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisphillips2277 for our bathroom, we learned the hard way that wiping immediately with a wet sponge is necessary. Keep the tiles as clean as you can while grouting. Then, after 30 minutes, the clean up job should be done again but it's much simpler.
@noelmadden19204 жыл бұрын
With proper tools grout for 10 minutes then clean in the same order you grouted. No need for second clean if you keep your water changed regularly.

Question: the tile that's been in the house for the last 50 the grout doesn't crack or chip off ever.. HOWEVER someone install some tile in my house last year and it's cracking already. The floor got wet and it really cracking down. Why is 50 years old grout not cracking at all and 1 year old grout cracking fast?

I recently had my tile floor professionally grouted with rows of low points. Should I re grout after first application has set.
@davevanvlerah51675 жыл бұрын
I know that this comment is 8 months old, but the answer is no. The new grout will just flake and cause more issues. The only fix is, unfortunately, to remove and replace the spots in the low grout lines. Oh, and if you paid professionals to do it, that's their problem anyway. Peace.

Funny how all the people just assume someone knows what they're doing because they posted a video about it. But he misses key points that no one else caught on to except for me considering I've done over 100,000 square foot of tile.
@garync38102 жыл бұрын
Care to share those key points that he missed?
@JoeShepardsLife2 жыл бұрын
@@garync3810 this guy it's definitely an amateur. You know there's so many different errors that can go wrong with grouting and he doesn't tell anybody any of them. He doesn't mention nothing about adding too much water to the grout will cause the grout to lose all of its color, nothing about if the grout is too thick it will crack and fall out of the joints, nothing about vacuuming out your joints because if it's full of dirt the grout will come out of them, nothing about what type of grout to use because most grout is junk. Doesn't tell you about the different kinds of grout like fast setting grout, doesn't mention nothing about what kind of tile, if the tile is a porous tile you never want to spread the grout across the entire tile because you will ruin your entire floor. So this guy is obviously an amateur at best. I've seen guys like this screw so many tile jobs up it's not funny. It's not just as easy as mixing the grout and spreading it on the floor. When you're trying to give somebody a demonstrative video You're supposed to add all of these different types of info into the video so you can teach someone who's never done it before. Someone who's never done tile before would be lucky to accomplish the job properly by listening to this video, unless they're using 50 cent per square foot tile like he's doing on an investor house where they don't care how the end product looks. Then this video would be fine. You don't just tell somebody who's never drove a car "just jump in and hit the gas. Idiot
@noelmadden19204 жыл бұрын
This method would take all day to do. That floor should take no more than an hour. Grouting boxes are relatively cheap and require only one rub of the sponge to clean the floor.
