Dragon fruit cuttings grow faster then seedlings also you want insects like ants for maximum pollination of your fruit also 6 of these plants will give you a decent income at the farmer's market.

hahhh...? Ants ate up my first 2 fruits. So, I sprayed the next generation fruits with soap solution. The ants disappeared, but the fruit skin turned brown and ugly...but the flesh came out delightful. For pruning purposes, I cut off the mature stem from its waist and stick them in water for further plantings. ........

You forgot to mention not all df are self pollinating. Also best practice is to manually pollinate the flowers even the self pollinating ones for a better chance of it actually fruiting and not aborting.

It's happened to us as well. Maybe try hand pollinating it at night time? Also, some variety of dragon fruit is not self-pollinating so you may need another variety nearby?
