Beets typically need more like 6 hours. You could try it, knowing that your beets will likely be slower to grow than normal and may never get very big. You could always eat the leaves!

I have failed at growing beets time and time again. I've done direct sow and seedling transplants in both beds and in ground. I don't know what I am doing wrong, they come out as tiny little stubs.
