Just a thought mate you have worked it all out for the months BUT after 2 weeks when the fish are 10cm bigger they will need more food and the same the next few weeks so all them workings out are only right for the first 2 weeks I would say you will need to double that amount of food if not treable or quadruple every 10cm they double in weight so you will need double the food every 10cm trust me iv lost sleep working out how much food mine need and getting the filters to take 1,3kg a day its definitely a work of art

You talk a good game… Have you ever grown a koi past 65cm? No is your answer. 1.2kg spread over 4 feeds? That’s 300g a feed, I can tell you now that won’t happen if you’re not going to accept some ammonia especially when you’re completely killing the system between batches of fish.

It is a common sight at Grow and Show events in Japan for organisers to raise unsold stocks to participate (and set an example). It is also interesting to build on the lessons to be learnt from this.

I think the most difficult part for hobbiests is we have mixed variety ponds. For example it is much easier to push the growth on Chagoi, Karashi etc than it is to do the same with Kohaku & Sanke as their feeding habits are so different. Showa seem to be different yet again probably sitting somewhere between the Chags & the other GoSanke. I guess what im getting at is its difficult to ensure an equal feed on the domestic scale.

Interesting content, what % water changes will be conducted throughout the challenge? Will be interesting to see what % of the koi achieve the potential sizes mentioned above the guaranteed 35cm given they are not individually eating the food amounts. In a pond that size with 80 fish I’d be tempted to divide it up to give them all a fair chance of maximum growth. Just my thoughts 👍🏻

(Im thinking the latter) Second question, this type of forced mega growth, does it have any detrimental effects on the Koi, the internale organs for instance or life expectancy? I think youre going to be feeding a lot more than you think a 40cm fish on average is 1.2kg thays a kilo of food per day a 60 cm fish on the other hand is about 7.5kg that would equate to 6kg a day .. and thats just at 1% weight rate .. at 19 degrees i thinknyou can go to 2%

If a 20cm koi weighs 500g, a 40cm koi will weigh a lot more than 1kg.

A quick search on google suggests 130g for a 20cm koi and 1kg for a 40cm koi - which sounds reasonable 👍

Hi I Absolutly love the way You explain stuff to us You break it down so us newbies can u understand So my question is theoretically Let's say we was millionaires and money wasnt an object And you wanted to do this at home would or could you run for example 2 nexus on one pond or would the second filter be redundant If my question makes sense like can you over filter a pond

Filter size is directly related to feed amount and stock level so no would not ve redundant in fact more than needed with that pond size and stock/feed amount
