Here is the article on the website 🙂 gardeningincanada.net/brussel-sprouts/ who has grown Brussel sprouts? And what are your tips and tricks?

I'm trying them in Calgary (zone 4a) - this is my first attempt. My sprouts are from six-inch greenhouse pot plants that were outdoors starting on the May long weekend. I have been fertigating with Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium Nitrate until the beginning of August. I have cut off the lower leaves as they get wind damage and I plan to top them at the beginning of September. My brussel sprouts are beginning to form and I can't wait to try them.

I have failed two years in a row now to obtain sprouts on my stalk. Started them late winter. Transplanted in early spring. Planting spot is part shade during the day 4-6 hours. Fertilized as needed. And when it came time to top them to encourage sprout growth I got wonky, flat leaves instead of tight sprouts. I have cabbage grown right next to them and they did just fine. Nice tight heads on the cabbage but horrible sprouts on my brussles ugh! I had such high hopes!!! Lol but there’s always next year

Great video! Wondering how to get brussel sprouts to produce seed? Are they biennial?

We left ours to over winter and a couple in zone 6 are flowering in May. We never got Brussels off of them.

Three years I tried to grow brussel sprouts. So over planted them this year. Started them indoors. Have 22 plants with sprouts on them😂🤣😂🤣 Broke off the lower branches. Bottom brussel sprouts opened. Sadly I planted in full sun. Yet melons and zucchini of all things were a fail. Would have thought with the heat wave they would have done well.

My brussel sprouts grew tall but didn't sprout. Thank you for the topping tip. I'm trying that this year!

I had a hard time last year. I winterize brussels sprouts and a 1 foot plant grew and planted. But it was attacked by rabbits, squirrels chewing off leaves and plants. Thank you for your suggestions. I'm growing them in jugs outside next week in the Midwest.

Love brussel sprouts. We didn't have much luck a couple years ago but I think we'll try again next year. Thanks for the tips!

Thank you. I have been wondering what my plants were doing. They have very beautiful big leaves!😀 but no sprouts. I will top them and see what happens.

Question, at what height might I consider topping my brussel sprout plant? They been planted from 4" sprouts two weeks ago and they are now 8-10" tall. You might also talk about a strategy to prune and eat your pruning rather than tossing them into compost. I live in Vancouver and I'm also surprised by how few people know that Hostas are edible and Vancouver is a perfect hosta climate - maybe you can comment on that? Thanks.

Are you looking for Armenian cucumbers? Because a couple of years ago I had a pack of seeds that were called cucumber melon. I looked and looked and couldn't find them. So I went back to the pack of seeds and the term name was something like melon metki? Something like that, which turns out to be the Armenian cucumber, hopefully this helps you🤗

Saw in another video the guy took off all the leaves except the top ones, is this a good idea?
@GardeningInCanada2 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you are in full sun/intense heat I would leave them in place because they shade the sprouts.

I started Brussel Sprouts a few Springs ago from directly planted seed in one part of a raised bed. They grew beautifully and produced a lot of heads. But, by the first week of August they looked like someone dumped ground black pepper all over them. Those little insects ruined them. So they never made it to the cooler weather. Maybe I started them too soon. I haven't planted any seed since. Those critters came on them like overnight. That was a great and informative video. We are in U.S. Zone 4a. Thanks! Take care!

What is your opinion of Neem oil? And, what would it work best on?

i need to do a video on this

@@GardeningInCanada This year for the first time I had what I believe to be stink bugs, they have a white triangle on their backs, and their backs looked like a shield. I also had a tiny black bug infesting the stems of my hollyhocks, not sure what they were. Weevil, aphids, don't know. So this is why I was asking about Neem oil.

Question: Is it true that heirloom tomatoes crack after it rains? This it our second year growing heirlooms.
@GardeningInCanada3 жыл бұрын
i have never heard that before
@heidimarchant54382 жыл бұрын
Heirlooms are infamous for cracking even if watering is consistent. Their the only tomatoes that crack in my garden unless I don't give them enough water and then overwater. A heavy rain after a dry spell will definitely cause cracking for any tomatoes. In my experience anyway.
@GardeningInCanada2 жыл бұрын
You’re not wrong a lot of different varieties have been bred over the years to illuminate the cracking factor. That’s why things like hybrids or GMO‘s are superior and by producers over other options.
