"GET A SENSE OF": perfect phrase for a perfect example of how to water a garden, for people who are new, are unsure, or know they're not watering adequately. When the question is "how much do I water", people are looking for a measurement, like in a recipe. But you can't give them that, for all the reasons you say. So watching you water in real time does give people a sense of how much, and where to begin. That's my take on it, anyway.

This Spring we planted our carrots in an old mineral tub. We also had a lid of sorts to use on it as a cover for better germination .................. FANTASTIC best carrot harvest ever. Cannot overemphasize the need for moisture as well as a cover per germination!

We use carrot tops as a replacement for anything calling for parsley. Using it for chimichurri is my favorite.

I planted carrots (3 weeks ago) in buckets this year. Season/summer started late this year again. Warm days but COLD nights. Really messed up my scheduled for both starters and planting in the garden. Only crop I managed to get into the ground was my potatoes. Last year was the same. Had MANY tomato plants and a HUGE harvest of only green tomatoes... This year, I opted to buy tomato plants as I really want to have my own tomatoes! Had to restart my zucchini seedlings. Direct sowed a few zucchinis about 2 weeks ago, they haven't come up yet, even though I had them between damp paper towels until they sprouted. The rest of the sprouted seeds, I put into starting pots and they're about ready to be planted in the garden and in a few containers. Go figure! The carrots I planted in the buckets, have come up a few inches already and have their real foliage. Know I need to water them more regularly than in the garden beds but, that's OK. Have to water nearly every day now regardless since all of a sudden, we now have above 80F/30C everyday along with warmer nights.

I feel like I have gotten pretty good on carrot 🥕., I always watch a few of y’all just to get another like crash course but I’m already I’m in Texas so I’m already on my third wave of carrots since fall. I’ve been succession planning so I just pull some out yesterday and I have another batch I need to pull out, but I’m gonna wait part so I’m gonna wait a little bit Denvers have I feel they’re really great for me and I want to try to. I just haven’t gotten the seed seeds by the scoop. They suggest those Denvers have fun. I’m a container planner I don’t have ground on my property not in the backyard but in the front I do have a little bit, but I still do container🌱🌱🌱

I love your videos. I had my first successful carrrot crop this year. The only problem is they all started going soft right away even though I put them in the crisper draw in the fridge. Store bought have never gone bad so fast. I'd love to know what I did wrong. Very discouraging.

I put them in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel. That helps keep them firm. Also make sure the tops are cut off. You can also soak them in water if limp, and the do crisp back up. Hey Gary, I also grow the Danvers Half-long due to heavy clay soil, and it's probably one of the best mid-size carrots in my opinion. I was curious since you grow some seeds from Botanical Interests, if the short variety was the Tonda di Parigi? It's terrible from Spring to Summer in my zone, but from fall to Winter it's the sweetest carrot, forming like a candy-sweet radish. I grew them in the home-built cold frame inspired by one of your videos. The really short and round ones seem like more of a gem for late Fall and Winter harvests. Your thoughts?

I have had zero luck with carrots this year. I planted several 5ft rows and when they got 1/2”-3/4” tall something came in and mowed them down overnight. I am thinking slugs. This happened twice. I am in SC zone 7b. It is getting pretty warm here now so I am thinking it is over until the fall.

Ive had not bad but not super good luck with growing carrits at my house so im trying in my moms garden. The one big issue i have with the cardboard is that it gets moldy underneath. Am i supposed to keep it wet ot let it dry out?

It has been a bit better since I cover my carrots and encourage the large ground beetles in my garden by providing habitat for them. I’m amazed how much good the beetles do for me. They also eat our little grey slugs and cutworms. I do appreciate your tips on growing carrots. Thank you.
