Hi Dan love the vids. Please do some thing on the shop bought compost as I've seen some right dodgy stuff containing plastics a many undesirables. Regards

I may consider this. I mainly use Homebase multipurpose. It seems to work for me and looks pretty good. I might compare some of this to my homemade compost and see the difference.

Very informative Dan. I’m growing Cauliflower for the first time from seeds. So far it looks good. But I need to separate the seedlings as I put them all into the one pot. Where do you buy your mesh from and also what would you do to deter slugs as I get plenty of slugs in garden? Any advice would be grateful

Hello there. I got mine from ebay. Here is some an ebay link for net www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=Cabbage+butterfly+net&_sacat=0&_odkw=Cabbage+butterlfly+mesh&_osacat=0 Here is mesh www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=Insect+mesh&_sacat=0 I forgot exactly which one I used. regarding slugs beer traps are good. I must say, I don't make effort to reduce slugs. A good thing to do is practice good gardening such as removing old leaves and not giving slugs places to hide like underneith plant pots etc.

I love cauliflower cheese! I cant wait till I have mine. When will you plant yours out? I have small seedlings now about 4 inches of a hardy cauiflour called all year round. I was thinking about planting them out in a couple of weeks

Hi Dan. I have just discovered your channel and love the three videos I have watched so far.👌 Could you tell me how you water the cabbages, broccoli and cauliflower; do you water through the net or do you remove it completely for watering? Thank you.🌱❤
@homegardens768211 ай бұрын
Greetings and welcome. Honestly speaking, I very rarely watered them but when I did it was straight through the net. I hope you continue to enjoy the channel. I am in my ninth year of Youtubing now so there are quite a few videos!

@@homegardens7682 Thank you for the reply. I am looking forward to going through your videos. I took up growing veg 2 yrs ago due to crazy world situation, but as a complete novice I struggle with it and had got disneartened; your videos have uplifted me. 👍❤I like the way you put up the sowing, growing and harvesting dates/time line; I find that very helpful. Thank you.❤🌱

@@jenkitching43 cool. Yes, certainly is a great time to be food growing. In my opinion a great thing to do is focus on a few things you really want to grow and are likely to be very productive. Potatoes, climbing french beans, perpetual spinach, beetroot are a few good ones.

@@homegardens7682 I was getting in a tizz trying to choose a heated propogater to start some pepper, onion and cabbage seeds now...but I noticed you were simply bringing the seeds into the house?!
@homegardens768211 ай бұрын
@@jenkitching43 yes that's it. I have never used heated propagators etc, even when growing chillis, peppers and aubergines. My philosophy is keep everything as simple as possible. Certainly in the early stages of gardening anyway. In fact, years down the line I still use a very simple system. If you get time, take a look at my uploads over the last few years and hopefully you will learn a lot from it.

It’s my first time growing this year. I was going to net my cauli,s and broccoli but I was going to use canes with net attached so the net is high off the ground leaving room for the veg to grow. I heard you say don’t let any wind get under it? So am I better to keep the net flat? 🙏🏻
@homegardens76828 ай бұрын
I do that so the wind doesn't blow the nets away.

So jealous of those beauties! What's the secret? I'm guessing, building the soil up! After a few germination failures with cauliflower, I read you had to put them in the dark. I popped them under my potting bench in the shed and that did the trick. I was surprised that you said they were going on the windowsill. Any thoughts? Maybe I'll try both ways and see. I'm off to see if I have any all year round seeds left!
@homegardens7682 Жыл бұрын
Very interesting Denise. You are are the second person who has told me they have had germination issues with cauliflower. I make sure I thoroughly soak the seeds when planting. I will keep thinking on this subject. Yes, keep building that soil! Even if it's only a small bit of the garden at a time.

Nice intro, Dan! Lovely Romanesco and cauliflower.👍 I have a question for ya...like our best time to grow brassicas is in the fall. I've never been able to start cauliflower from seed. I have no problem growing cabbage, broccoli, etc. from seed . Do you have any suggestions?
@homegardens7682 Жыл бұрын
Aha! Now I can't give a guaranteed solution but I remember my grandfather telling me you have to grow cauliflowers "Quick" What's the weather like in your Autumn there?
@valoriegriego5212 Жыл бұрын
@homegardens7682 Good-day Dan! 😃 In August we are still hitting 100. October, we start to cool down to the low to mid 80s. Our last frost date is between November 27th and mid December. I start my brassica seeds in cell trays mid to late July and get them in the soil around September 1st. I've tried growing from seed with the trays outdoors on my potting bench and indoors. I have no problem growing the cauliflower to harvest...I just can't get the seeds to germinate and end up purchasing starts of the same variety. Frustrating!🤔

I was wondering if the cauliflower leaves were edible, but you have answered that in the video; thank you. Another question I have though is if there was any benefit of removing the cauliflower head but keeping the plant in the ground. Would it produce seeds this way, for example?
@homegardens7682 Жыл бұрын
It could be interesting. I have never done it but may this year. Wouldn't produce seeds as its the heads that go to seed. I'm not sure if the plant would put out more heads if this is done.
