Thank you great tips! How old was the tree when purchased? Do you know on average how many years for peach/nectarine trees to fruit? Would you recommend a certain age, and how is one able to tell the age, if not stated? Many thanks!

1st year growing pumpkins. Put some organic sprouting i acquired from my local market. Put some mounds of my compost at the base where my hops are growing. They started growing up the hops using them as a natural trellis. Only mid summer. The Butternuts has multiple pumpkins growing on them but the Queensland blue pumpkins have only 1 per shoot (mind you those pumpkins are already massive). Feed them my own homemade fish emulsion twice a week and water them everyday. They seem to like that routine.

Compared to certain regions of Canada certainly true. I am sure though that certain varieties of fruits may grow in your area. For example the Valiant grape vine is said to be able to grow in zone 2.

Hi, did you just lay the bricks on the ground loosely or were the cemented in? Thanks
@homegardens7682
@homegardens7682 16 күн бұрын
Loose laid in. If one was looking for a permanent structure cementing the bricks in and having a foundation could be a good idea. Far more time consuming and costly though.

From Sweden here. I think I found your channel about 4 years ago and you were a big reason why I got into gardening, since you make it look fun. Growing food helped me get out of a pretty rough period of my life so I’m grateful for channels like yours that inspire people! Keep making content that you think is fun. Get creative and weird with it haha. Your playfulness and curiosity really shows that those things are just as important in gardening as the plants themselves!

Thank you for this informative video. At what point do you move them out of the house and into a greenhouse/polytunnel? As soon as they germinate? Immediately after pricking out?

what you're calling a leafmold substitute, I have been making and calling compost. I'm questioning now what I've been doing. What's the difference between leafmold and compost? (I've been using urine, acer (silver maple) leaves, vegetable waste, grass clippings, milk that's gone bad, chipped up weeds, rain water, cardboard, etc.) Again, what's the difference between the two? And you're planting directly into the leaf mold? I do in ground growing, and I've made self-watering planters... Things have done very well growing in them, but I'm still wondering if I'm doing it right! :)

Happy belated holidays. I have been watching your videos for many years and have been gardening 65 of my 70 years. I spend summers in North Dakota with a short growing season so always interested in any tricks in extending the seasons, polytunnel would be the obvious solution but the extreme high winds make that impossible. Having sweet peppers turn red has been my latest goal. I'm going to try cold frames for the spring but then the frost can come in early September and by then the plants are too tall to fit. I had a thought to dig the frames deeper in the ground to give space for height and maybe absorb some thermal heat.

Happy Yuletide from Staffordshire. Only been following your channel for about a year tho it's been fun. Gardening and growing my veg in the garden came to an abrupt halt just before the August bank holiday. Shooting pain down my leg out of nowhere. Took the docs over 8 weeks and an MRI later to diagnose a bulged disc in the lower back. Haven't been out in the garden since bar of refilling the bird feeders and picking off some dead leaves. However got into canning, which is fun, addictive but most of all rewarding. Hopefully will be back up to full strength by next spring and ready to clean up the bomb site of the veg plot.

So glad you have made a full recovery. I am gardening in the West Coast of Canada Zone 8b, similar climate to England (lots of rain, mild temperatures). I have been watching you for at least 5 years. I love your what's growing in the garden videos, it feels like having a look around in a friends garden. I also enjoyed your walk in the woods... so different from our forests. My gardening interests are gardening in a small urban yard. Especially using plants that are edible or medicinal but that also benefit pollinators and birds. I plant a garden to nourish my body, soul and to help the wildlings who share my yard. We also had a difficult gardening year, cold and wet until July 1. We were calling June, Junarary it was soooo cold.

Welcome back Dan, Since Brexit it’s become more difficult to source a named variety of Persimmon Tree. Most are sold by their scientific name of Diospyros kaki or D.Virginiana. Only one company sells D.kaki Rojo Brillante. Maybe you could propagate your tree by Air Layering and offer up one of the propagated trees as a prize for UK viewers.
