How to Grow

Cleome is one of my favorite heat loving annuals! When everything is crispy and fried, Cleome is shining bright! If you can't find them at your local nursery, an added plus is that they are super easy to grow from seed. In this video, I show you how to direct sow your seeds and also, how to pinch the stem for a fuller plant with more blooms. Enjoy;) Dawn

I'm in Ireland and took a chance on growing these this year, I started them in trays and after a couple of weeks being patient gave up and emptied out the trays to re use for something else and found a single solitary seedling buried beneath the waste. I quickly potted it up and even though it's pretty small it has come along well in the recent warm spell. At least I think it's Cleome ha, the fun of gardening. I'll be so happy if it is and produces flowers. Thanks for the tutorial.

Well I have some cleome seeds from a plant 2 years that I want to plant again. They must be perennial here in zone 7b as some of my seeds got washed under the fence to my neighbors yard and last year they were10’ tall! I just wanted to know when I can plant them outdoors and came across your video and now I’m subscribed and found out what I needed to know Thank you! Well that fence is 8’ and they were2’ above it- my neighbors from across the way could see them above the fence and wanted to know what they were- I told them they were just some ‘snoopy cleome’s looking over the fence’ 😂

I think as long as it’s hot and they are getting enough sun, it’s always worth a try! Keep in mind that they do get rather large! Mine are already over 3’ tall. Good luck and I would love to know the outcome!

Like you say cleome are a hot summer plant for u.k. they are I would say difficult seeing as they sold like our weather here. I tried for years to grow these on a window cill then conservatory this is a really bad idea for sun lovers like cleome/ amaranthus ect ect. I think the only way to grow is to try cast seeding and taking your chances with birds,slugs wind and rain.

That’s too bad they didn’t work for you…although cooler weather is really nice for growing things! I think you have much prettier options to grow!
