I'm only 1 week into the growing season.. but will seed more tomorrow.! Can they be cared for over winter.! ? In a greenhouse and would they survive ? Or are they a single season plant only.? I've managed to keep germaniums over winter and have flowers in very early spring.. j

Hi Jeff they can be kept overwinter but must be above 15 degC or else they will get fungal problems and rot.

Do you grow yours on heat mats or do you have a heated greenhouse?
@LearnHow24 жыл бұрын
I dont use heat mats but start the seeds off indoors on a south facing window cill. I then transfer them to my unheated greenhouse when the weather warms up a bit (usually April here in the UK).
@jacobbarrett88343 жыл бұрын
Also what’s the best type of soil for transplanting
@LearnHow23 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob. If you are planting in pots then use general purpose compost. If you are planting outside they do best in a position in partial shade, well drained soil that is only very slightly alkaline (pH just over 7).

How often should you water coleus when it’s just sprouting and you take the lid off? And should you just water it after it has 2nd set of leaves and you transplant for the second time?
@LearnHow23 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob. After the lid is taken off just water enough to keep the soil moist but not soaking wet otherwise the roots will drown and rot. Yes water before the second transplant. Keep safe.
@Pauliepoika2 жыл бұрын
Do you have to water the seeds when they are in the tray with the lid?
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
Only if it looks as if they are starting to dry out - the lid should help retain most of the moisture. Keep safe.

2 questions: why transplant them into another tray after 2 weeks. Couldn’t you just space them out in the same tray? And (2) I’ve never seen that type of add-on nozzle on your watering can. From where can I order that end attachment? I’m in Canada. Thx.
@LearnHow23 жыл бұрын
1) The plants were in the small tray at least 4 weeks. I grow a large number of plants and find it easier to manage germination in small trays in a spare room in my home as the greenhouse is too cold early spring. I transplant to pots and bigger trays when they are ready for the greenhouse. 2) I only could find the add on nozzle in the uk here - www.littlefieldsfarm.com/haws-medium-fine-spray-plastic-rose-f5-10-oval?adGroupId=60998325070&device=c&gclid=CjwKCAiA4rGCBhAQEiwAelVti6kz0oeAcZkX3sKIIhRkCG67yxofByaYqnu47GVsawYhcJWmq4ptFxoCJRUQAvD_BwE
