Many won't know but each individual silk connects to each individual corn kernel. It's more obvious when you strip back the leaves when you harvest. The reason you get gaps on your corn cob is that one silk missed the pollen falling down onto to it. I get into the habit of waiting till the pollen is at it's peak and just give each stalk a bit of a jiggle as I go down the rows. It has worked well for me.

Following along with this, because I decided to try and attempt growing some fall corn this year in my 2023 fall garden. I just amended the soil in my raised bed this morning with some black kow and throw down some balanced fertilizer before I mixed it up and also added some blood meal. Going to just be a test, so if it makes, I'll attempt a bigger area next spring and see what happens, but looking forward to it and very interested in seeing if this grows. My seed of choice was a sweet corn called "Nirvana". Bought it from Hoss Tools last year, just didn't get around to trying it. Hoping it's still active. But thanks again for the videos that You and Ms. Nancy make, you kind folks really do make a BIG difference in helping us little guys. And in times like today, there's a lot of folks really needing the help and teaching. God Bless ya'll and keep up the great work the Lord has blessed you with. Have a Blessed Day.

Thank you!!! I have been looking for a comprehensive teaching on how to grow sweet corn. Most videos out there teach you how to space it or how deep to do it or how to water but very few address when to fertilize and you did that. It may be too late for this year‘s harvest to see much improvement but I expect big things next year!

Thanks, Hollis & Nancy for your great instruction! I actually GREW corn stalks. However, the kernels turned to smut. According to what I could find, smut is caused by too much nitrogen in the soil. Should I avoid adding the extra nitrogen so that I won't get smut again?

Thank you for your corn series. They've been a good help and educational. One question - do you do anything manually to help the tassels pollinate the silk? I've heard people talk about shaking the stalks or just simply walking down a row with a broom and brushing it against the stalk to cause pollen to fall. I always thought that natures wind would be enough to get the job done.

Your corn looks beautiful. We just had our freeze and now I'm hoping Texas is over this winter. I'm going to plant my corn this week.

Also do your perimeter fences keep critters out of your garden. Squirrels and rabbits love to eat my crops

The perimeter fence is a deer fence. I plan to add 36” rabbit wire skirt around the bottom as soon as our country’s economy recovers. Nothing short of killing them will stop them🐿

Can't find the ammonium Nitrate 21-0-21. Where did you buy it? What can you use in its place?

I git mine at Ace Hardware. If you can’t find it anywhere just use a 20-0-0 fertilizer

Good morning, Hollis and Nancy! We are so excited to watch these videos. We do have a question: What direction do your garden rows run? Our garden is 100ft long and the length runs East and west. We were curious which way you laid out your garden. Thank you very much.

My garden is 50’x100’. The long side runs East to west. The 50’ rows run north to south.

Thank you for your quick response, Hollis. My husband built four raised beds as you taught us in your video when you and Nancy were in Virginia. We will be filling them tomorrow. It snowed here on Friday so our planting is a little delayed. Therefore, we have been waiting to get started. Thank you again for your helpful instructions and diagrams. After our raised beds, we will get started in the earth garden. Tell Nancy and Bing-Bing hello. We are so grateful you two started this mission Tom teach and help others. God bless.

Truly glad you have a sponsor but most people don't. That stuff cost out the back side. Would love the convenience but not in this day and time. Have to compost and fertilize in low cost hard work ways.

Mr. Hollis, good evening from Wesley Chapel, Fla. about 100 miles south of you. I really love your channel and the way you explain everything in great detail. I just finished watching your video on growing corn. I have been growing silver queen in my garden for years and had pretty good success, with just one giant problem " WORMS", please tell me what you use and how you use it. I use Spinosad and BT. Thank you for all you and Miss Nancy do to help us all. P.S. I would love to come visit you 'one day.
