I love culantro. I have them all around my house. I made a test. some of the culantro were smaller and their leaves were thinner and while the others were strong, but they tasted the same. To me, they are the real cousins. So I call the little one recao and the bigger one culantro. Since I'm in a wheelchair, as a gift I was given a long cement raised bed. Around 30 ft long. My mom as a birthday gift gave me the fence and my uncles. After 2 years came Hurricane Maria destroyed my fence and the wing of the house. When I saw it a few days later I cried but I didn't give up. I have 5 banana plants inside the raised bed, an area for compost, peppers, and more. In the wintertime I let them grow their seeds but if it has two stems I cut one to cut the stress.

They are like carrots when u griw from seed. Takes almost 4weeks to germinate and u will see lots of small green baby plants. So just be patient and don't lose hope. Because once they sprout, u will get loooooots of baby plants. Most important is to just spray, dont flood the seeds when u sprinkle them on the soil

@@francefarms i have never fertilised my culantro😅but surprisingly they r doing well. About watering...they like moist soil but not waterlogged. My location is malaysia, in here if its rainy season i dont water them. If dry season i water them once a day.

@@francefarms I put my seeds in a glass candy dish that has a glass cover, I put potting soil in it then took a really thin and cheap napkin from a fast food restaurant and put it over the wet soil, and the napkin immediately got almost transparent, and sprinkled the seeds on it. Covered the candy dish and put it in a sunny window sill and in a week they sprouted. I put enough water in the dish for there to be it's own condensation and humid climate in the jar for the week with out opening. They are sprouted and don't need any more water so after seeing sprouts from the seeds I Covered it back up and put it back in the window.

Summary 1. If you want more leaves, cut the seed stem. 2. These are not full sun plants, if anything they are mainly shade. 3. Don't over water but they like moist soil. 4. Use nitrogen to feed the plants which is good for leaf production. Don't over feed your plant.

Thank you for the great information. I’ve been trying to grow culantro myself, firstly I ordered my seeds from Amazon as well. My first try took about two months to see results, but the rest of the seeds I created a little greenhouse effect by using a plastic container, a suggestion I got from another blogger and they germinated in about two weeks so, you may want to try that!

This was incredibly helpful. Just starting a single plant and I already see a seed coming out. I plan to let those grow out and get more plants. Thanks for sharing about the blood meal. When my mom plants she uses bone meal and says it works great. Will try them both. And I think the one plant you mentioned is "genipa" with a green skin and white fleshy inside covering a dark colored seed. That fruit is also amazing and you definitely have the climate for it. I bought the seeds on Amazon and it germinated really fast in my hydroponic to get it started. Then I transplanted it outside. I never could use the leaves. It grew a lot but not long leaves that I could harvest. And very sharp.

Very helpful video. I didn't know the seeds took that long to germinate. I was sure I lost them and I just reused the soil and the pot for something else after a couple weeks. When I buy from the market, I cut the leaves leaving about 1 to 2 inches from the root or base. I stick that in water for about 1 week and the roots start developing. Once the plant starts growing I transfer them to a pot with soil. Now I will follow your lead with what I've done so far. Hopefully the combined knowledge will be a success.

This is a great video. I found this plant in Florida a couple of years ago and just adore it. I have not been successful growing it but now I see why! I have several floral shoots that I just cut this morning and am going to try and harvest the seeds. I love to cut some leaves and put in my water, tastes fabulous. And doesn't get slimy.

I got it as soon as I seen it! Lol I didn't know that about the little plant that grows in the middle of it, thank you so much for all of the helpful information! God bless sis I always grow some from seeds i got literally thousands of thousands of plants but thats here in the Caribbean but with my experience i find that there germinate a lot faster with hot sun when as before in the rainy season it took like months the germinate but in the durning the dry season i saw plants in 8 days time but when the leave grow bigger they need shade not to dry out

Our weather here is a bit different and a lot more humid. We were recently up to 42 Celsius lol. Our sun is really way to hot for these plants. In the cooler weather spring and fall will be perfect for growing seeds ..you all are blessed to have it grow wherever ..our soil and grass here is also very different..there's really only certain grass you can plant in florida to keep the heat. Thank you for this informative video. I just found Culantro plants for the first time yesterday at my favorite small garden center in southeast Louisiana (Zone 9), and naturally had to buy one since the sign said that it stands up to our high heat and humidity better than Cilantro. The tag in the pot says it can be planted in sun or shade, prefers fertile, moist soil, and grows to a height of 24 to 36 inches (61-81cm) tall. This herb can be used fresh or dried, but from what I’ve found in my Internet research, it’s often used during cooking rather than afterward due to its bolder taste which will be tempered a bit by heat. I personally find the leaves have a much coarser, tougher texture than those of cilantro, another reason (in my opinion) to add it to recipes during cooking, to make it more tender. Lastly, if you want to collect viable seeds to plant and/or save/share, wait until after the plant has bloomed and the seeds have dried near the end of the second year of the plant’s growth. Until then, continue picking out and discarding developing flower stems to keep leaf production and growth high. Just remember to allow your plant(s) to bolt and bloom as it nears the end of it’s second year if you’d like to harvest the dried seeds afterward. What appeared to be tiny seeds on your plant was likely newly developing flower buds since it hadn’t bloomed yet. Hope this info helps.

The guy that gave me my baby plant in Hawaii works for department of agriculture and told me to let it seed and it will just give me a huge pot! He said that they like cool nights and 80% shade and love to be saturated with water 🤷🏼‍♀️ Apparently that's how they grow best on the windward side of Hawaii... which seems to contradict everything this lady says. He even said to cut a milk jug down and put bottom of the pot, so drainage doesn't happen 😅 I believe half the width of those plants she has maintains more flavor, as the aromatics come from the veins of the leaf 😊

I'm actually seeing lots of little plants coming up now..it took about 4 months but I have probably over 20 from the seeds. So if you get the seeds just keep holding out and it'll germinate...I've bought the plants as babies and transplanted into larger pots give them lots and lots of water..

look at "Caribbean Pot", and you will see a lot of Trinidadian recipes with it at / in use.. In Jamaica, parts of the plant are used to treat epilepsy, and it is referred to locally as "Fits Weed".

New leaves will grow back I snip off with my fingers at base. I don't cut all at once, I just break off what I need...pruning will also help produce more leaves

I’m growing some from seed indoors and I now have a ton of seedlings. I know when they’re seeds they need direct sunlight in order to germinate, and that’s why you don’t really bury them. About 2 tbsp neem oil 1 tbsp liquid dish soap to 1 gallon of water. Shake well each time. I spary probably once a week and if there are problems I will spray every other day. @@wendyramkissoon2017 no problem! Any dish soap will work once there is no bleach in it. You can get more natural dish soaps like seventh generation brand or Mrs Myers brand. But any dish soap will do ..the soap basically is to help the oil mix with the water ❤❤❤

Allow one plant to grow the flower stalk for seeds. Take another plant and cut off the stalk before it flowers. The cut plant will give more leaves. The flowered plant will stop growing. Plants can take indirect sunlight all season long. The seeds that fall will grow into new plants. You almost have culantro all year round with good drainage and deep water well. It withstands cold weather too.

Please note your plants NEED TO be watered but not every single day. especially if being kept in the shade it is easy for fungus to grow on soil and cause root rot. Your soil should always stay moist, if it dries out your leaves will get droopy.

I love culantro. It's so flavorful. I've been struggling with growing mine. First one died on me. I figured it was because it flowered. I wasn't sure if the spikes in the middle were signs of it seeding, but I just took a wild guess lol. Thanks for confirming it for me. I also was wondering if I needed to give it more shade.
