Hi Robbie from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 culantro likes warm weather but not direct sun. It likes the soil moist. We make sofrito which is s blend of cilantro,culantro, sweet peppers(ají dulce)onions, garlic, and cubanelle peppers. Culantro will make a spiky flower, let it get dry and brown then get the seeds. You can shop it and add it to soups, stews, rice, beans etc… we use it for almost everything 😊

Oh, all this is so interesting! My friend was telling us of a blend they do, that might have been it what you wrote here, as he is from Puerto Rico, Thanks so much for sharing this!

@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy yes it is sofrito, and it is a traditional blend that has been used for decades by us Puerto Ricans. You're Welcome 😊

You are so right about this plant. As a Puerto Rican I love my culantro and cilantro I blend both of them in my cooking.

I love my culantro. I found my seeds on etsy. Use sparingly because it is a very strong herb. Great in Caribbean cooking 😋💕

Here in Trinidad and Tobago its basically a weed . They grow from the seed , multiply at the base of the plant or from cutting the base stalk . We call it shadon beni. Its the most fragrant and almost every savory dish we put it .

Yes we love that in 🇵🇷 we call it "Recao"we use it for all in our gastronomy. Specially to make sofrito. I try to have as many as possible in my yard. Yes the flower needs to be cut for better leaves. I am after the leaves of course and by the way if you cut the flower too soon you still can use it for cooking ..is not waste.

Here's a tip for when you have teeny tiny seeds like that when it's hard to grab just a couple wet the end of a Q-tip and pick up just a couple that way and you can flick them off the end of the Q-tip with a toothpick 😀

Yes! I’m Puerto Rican and I use it in my cooking. I had a rough time with my plant I bought from Walmart, it died on me. So this year I’m planting the seeds. I started it in my Aero garden. It’s doing well but I’m afraid to plant it in a container and put it outside because the weather here in Florida has been pretty iffy. This is so exciting seeing you plant these seeds.😁🇵🇷 Much stronger flavor. I put it in my Sofrito which is a cooking base. I can’t wait to see how it goes fir you. Tfs. Have a wonderful evening.🤗

If youre in south fl, its perfect timing right now to plant. Hete i central florida it will die during the winter. If you live in cold climates, just let your plant flower so when the cold kills it, you can start a new grow during spring.

@@dookieheadhead I live on the Gulf of Mexico so I guess it’s Central. There always seems to be problems here. Plants that need full sun can’t take the sun here, too much moisture, bugs. It’s frustrating but I carry on. My Culantro died and never came back. My Cilantro I’ve actually brought into my enclosed porch and it actually picked up after me thinking that it was dying out. I may just bring it in the house when it gets cold. These pop up cold fronts are a big downer too. I hadn’t realized just how many factors play into gardening. Thanks for your reply. Have a great Sunday.🤗

You always have wonderful ideas. As well as you provide such inspiring videos. I ordered inexpensive organic paper cups to start seedlings. I find it difficult to get them out of those plastic seed starting trays without damaging them. Although it is not time to start things in zone 6, I am doing all the preparation now. Thank you and Gary for everything you share.

I have a bunch of seeds. Once the plant grows let it flower as it will produce seeds. This stuff grows on peoples lawns here in south florida and is seen as a weed. Most people spray it with weed killer.

Hey Robbie New subscriber here 👋 Can you tell me how to collect culantro seeds? We have a culantro plant and its flowering! I wanna collect the seeds for future use. But I have no idea regarding when to collect seeds. So I wait for the seeds to turn black? Will new seeding grow if the seeds fall out after turning black? Plz help
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Жыл бұрын
Allow the seed heads to stay on the plants until they start to dry, if you remove them too early many seeds will not be good to grow. If you think birds or critters may take the seed before you remove them, cover the seeds once pollinated, with Tulle or light fabric so nothing will take the seeds off. So yes, once the seeds are black you can plant them AND store them in an envelope and plant as you need to.
