I bought some Freesia bulbs on special offer so I thought I would show you how to plant them get maximum blooms as a bit of an experiment. I will update you in the coming weeks of the progress!

Where I live in Australia the freesias grow wild and they are in massive clumps together like a lawn and the smell from a distance is alluring.

Hi Andy, fairly weak seaweed feed or a tomato food as you dont want too much nitrogen will assist flower production. Thanks for your positive comment about my videos really appreciated.

Haha ive heard they come from Holland, Lets be honest haha in from holland and just got 20 freesia bulbs in the mail, Lets plant en pray for some nice smelling freesia's, Ty for making this video hihi

Dont give up on them quite just yet. Sometimes if they have really dried out they take a long time to show. My polytunnel has been quite warm recently. Fingers crossed and just wait and see.

Mark I was at a local big box store and they had some of the most gorgeous Freesia. I had my hand ready for that impulse buy but we are heading into the 40s C now so had to pull away.

Many thanks for the video. I have growing ftom seed for nearly 70 years now. The one flower i have a problem with is Freesia. Only some of the bulbs grow. Just wondering is the problem the heavy we have here in Cork,Ireland. Also,it is an acid soil

Not sure they would survive 40c. I planted a garden in Australia for friend in Queensland and have seen the effect 40 deg can have on plants! Still thinking of the conundrum of a no dig cool box.

Why do you prefer the white ones, do they have a particularly good fragrance? I haven't smelled all the colors but I love the fragrance of the yellow ones.

LOL it is a conundrum. I've thought of using an AC condenser in a wicking bed. That just seems like such a waste of energy. Not to mention it could cool the roots off to much.

1 in a 1000 people cannot smell the scent of freesias. My mum was one of them. Luckily I didn't inherit this from her.
