Nao sei mundo afora, mas aqui no Brasil, é o tempero mais usado na culinária. O bom e que além de tempero também é usado para fins medicinais sendo acrecido à chá com outros produtos.

Make sure your leaves are mulched! A friend just dumped leaves on top to cover and the matted leaves did prevent the garlic from coming through

Chopped garlic scapes into mashed potatoes is great.

I recently discovered a published field trial studying the effects of the timing for removing scapes from garlic. The bottom line is that removing scapes as soon as they appear can increase the size of your bulbs by as much as 30 to 40%. The study was done by the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada about 4 years ago.

Thanks for sharing! The timing we recommend is if you plan on eating the scapes, but removing them right away sounds like a good way to maximize the bulbs

Fabulous! I hope next years will be as good as yours! Last year was a bust for my garlic. I’ve ordered more and asked to have them shipped earlier so I can cold stratify for a month. Soft neck mostly. Zone 9b Texas. Blessings!

Hey there....sort of funny we are on the same video at the same time. I'm in Texas along I-10 zone 9a. I was curious, if you don't mind me asking, which variety you ordered. I have tried the Texas Rose the one time I've grown garlic. Wasn't really successful but want to try again but maybe a different variety. Thanks if you have time to reply. Jesus bless.

@@geekygreenhouse It really is because I'm not a fan of winter, so garlic really gives me a boost of hope that "we made it through" another Wisconsin winter 🤣 💖

Good information! For this fall's planting I have ordered Chesnok Red, Music, and Armenian hardneck varieties. I am right on the softneck/hardneck zone line, so I can grow both, but seem to have the best luck with hardneck. I'll be planting in growbags this time, as I don't want to tie up a whole bed area next Spring/Summer. Mmmm, I think I'll roast some for dinner tonight. 👩‍🍳

Hardneck is my favorite for the bigger cloves and easier peeling! I've got some roasted in the fridge now 😁

I started with 6 to 8 heads of garlic (hardneck) and now have 150 in the ground 3 years later, it's the best thing to grow. I make dehydrated garlic powder, eat fresh, and store down basement. It's February now in New Hampshire and I still have 4 heads left pulled in July that are in perfect shape. Hardneck isn't supposed to last that long but mine always does if stored in the cellar. It is soooo much better than store bought and great in homemade fermented hot sauces.

Your journey of learning has started with this wonderful plant , I read your post old mate cowboy, and it gave me the inspiration to comment on it, you if you are some one who works with horses, if you add a couple of cloves to their feed every morning, they will never need worming or have problems with Bott flies, just saying as I'm in Australia don't know where your at , but it works for us here .

In Late Oct/1st of Nov, I put out a LOT of cloves. I had some great green growth, early spring, then, each day I noticed the greens were getting eaten. Each day, less and less of the green. And then , it was gone, by the end of May! Go figure. I also notice,d I now have dozens of rabbits around! Thinking of raising fox and coyote...

Your green thumb is getting greener, and I have just subbed you, but you still have a lot to discover about growing this wonderful plant, I grow over a thousand cloves a year in my garden, and I have done so for the last 36 years and that just keeps my family and friends supplied for the year and that doesn't count what I keep for planting the following season, once you find a variety that is suited to your local climate and soil conditions stick with one or two of the best producers of big bulbs, you have the basic knowledge but growing this wonderful plant is a life long journey, I hope you stay dedicated to discovering all the intricacy's of this wonderful plant, oh and here's a tip an old Italian/ Serbian friend of mine gave me , he said eat a raw clove of garlic every day first thing in the morning and you will never have a sick day in your life, and you will live a long and healthy life, so I have followed his advise and I don't get sick, take from that what you will, but my wife no longer gives me a good morning kiss anymore , not sure why but maybe thats a blessing in disguise, I should also add she still gives me a good night kiss, which will always keep you young, happy gardening and I shall continue to watch your journey with interest.

Nice and informative video 👍How deep do they grow? I'm thinking it could be a fun experiment to chuck some store bought garlic in a windows box, but I'm not sure if it is deep enough.
@geekygreenhouse
@geekygreenhouse Жыл бұрын
They should do okay in a window box. I would want at least 8-10" of soil depth, and plant the cloves around 3" deep. Worth a shot either way, maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised by the results.
