Oh god... mowing over leaves 😮 Please consider there might be hedgehogs sleeping during the day 🦔 And if they haven't all been killed or injured horribly by all those robo lawn mowers, hedgehogs also appreciate a pile of leaves to hibernate.

I spread mine over the yard and it insulates the grass from the snow. I mulch them up with the mower early in the spring and have a green lawn a month before everyone else! Even in the dead of winter, I've checked under the leaves and found the grass to be green and healthy. It works very well

😂That pasta vs rice clip. As I watched it, I had just decided to prepare the cheesy tomato and beef pasta I like, rather than the beef stroganoff he prefers. You see, he has been a little 'attitudish' lately; so I have been keeping quiet and reminiscing. (We actually signed a contract before marriage, that he barely even honored in the first month.) Last night, I also realized that I could have possibly saved up to $800,000 by now, had I remained single. (Only just made our 2 yr anniversary.) I have been the understanding mother, sister, daughter, niece, granddaughter, cousin, and wife for too long. This is obviously why there has always been a lack of respect. However, I prefer my solitude over trying to convince the few fools I know, how to treat me. I enjoy my peace, and seriously considering a change already 🤷🏽

You say shred the leaves with a mower, then you proceed to place unshredded leaves on you garden? WTF

Please look up the Luna moth chrysalis stage.... don't chop the leaves so many beneficial insects use the and animals for surviving winter❤

Don't mow your leaves. There are lots of beneficial insects that overwinter in leaves. When you run the lawn mower over them you are destroying the creatures. It doesn't make sense to try to use it to benefit your soil but then you take out the beneficial insects in the process.

I use my mower with the bagger on to collect them. Works like a charm.

And what if you have 29 oak trees and are overwhelmed with leaves. Clogs the mower when I try to use mower to mulch them. That many leaves will kill the grass. What should I do?
@7-ten5 күн бұрын
Get rid of the grass and plant native plants that will not only benefit the native pollinators but also the soil.

Nice and informative. I need to see if I can get my hands on some of that insecticidal soap in Sweden. I have had to use a mix of dish soap and just soap (I'm not sure there's an English word for it, but in Swedish it is called "såpa"). From what I've noticed it doesn't fully trash the "waxy coating" on the leaves, but some of it is removed. Would be nice with something that hopefully removes none of it 😄
@stevenfeil70798 күн бұрын
One or two tablespoons of soap in a gallon of water will cause minimal damage. Your information is misleading and incomplete.
@geekygreenhouse8 күн бұрын
This is a great idea for an experiment. I think we’ll make an upcoming video on this soon! People tend to over-apply sprays as well, so it’s best practice not to use dish soap. Potassium based soaps and purpose built insecticidal soaps are still better for your plants tissues - and more gentle!

Just a quick question... my overwintering chillies are growing leaves like crazy... should I de leaf them or just let it go in the hope that in spring they will start extra early?
@geekygreenhouse8 күн бұрын
It's likely too warm where they are at the moment - its not a problem really! One of ours is actually doing the same because it has been such a warm fall. Leave them be and watch the leaves closely for pests, and harden them off in the spring.

What do you suggest to use to keep the plant from sinking down into the water?? I’m using some vases and crocks that I like looking at, and a wine glass, but the actual plant part needs a support to keep it propped up out of the water.
@geekygreenhouse8 күн бұрын
You can use plastic wrap and poke a hole in it for an easy fix, or you can also use glass stones or marbles in the water - but you do need to rinse them when you change the water

Annual vegetable gardens and perennial forests have different nutrient requirements. The leaves are great for the fungal dominated soil ecology that forests require, but annuals are generally adapted to bacterial dominated soil systems. I agree with your assessment overall and I use leaves in all my gardens, but it's meaningful to know that the leaves are especially good for perennial garden systems.

I wouldn't recommend chopping up the leaves because some of the leaves may contain the larva of really good predators that will keep your garden protected from bugs.

Addendum: Fallen leaves are also crucial for the survival of beneficial insects over the winter months. They hide beneath them as it gets cold to hibernate and survive til spring. Leave some leaves!

re store bought garlic, i tried it last year as an experiment because my supermarket was selling off bags of loose cloves cheap, no they dont all work but after i set them up in a tub lined with cotton wool to keep it moit root eand down and lid on tight it took a while but they did shoot roots, so if youre feeling experimental go ahead and try store bought, dont forget to give em a good wash then pre sprout and plant them. i know i like this garlic cos its what i buy to eat and this year ill have fresh ones to plant
