I will show some of my methods of protecting them in a later video, I usually use bamboo canes and twine. A chain link fence sounds good as it allows for good airflow and no shade.

This is the most informative sunflower growing series I've ever seen 👏 hope I can grow bigger sunflowers next year now! Although I've had issues with the leaves strangely curling up and being severely stunted for some reason and I have no clue why that is but I know it's been affecting its growth fairly significantly maybe improving my soil will help guess I'll see next year. Thanks, leaf curl could be due to a variety of reasons so it is hard to diagnose, it's either: too dry, too much fertiliser/salt in soil, weed killer damage or root issues. I would try adding lots of compost to your soil and make sure the plants are well watered next year.

I wouldn't expect sunflowers to cause issues, although their roots can grow very deep they tend to be thin roots that only last for one season. If there was a cracked pipe nearby however I could imagine it causing issues with roots in the pipes.

Hello, do you suggest covering the sunflowers indoors to get them to germinate? They are my favourite flower, and I'd like to attempt to grow them along with other things, but looking at containers as I'm in a new build property with turf not long laid.

No they shouldn't need any cover as long as the seeds are burried underground and are on a sunny windowsill they should germinate within a week or two. They don't need particularly high temperatures to germinate. They can grow well in containers, make sure you use large containers as they are thirsty plants and can easily be blown over in the wind.

is it ok to germinate the seed with the napkin and sealer container technique before putting it in soil?Also what do you reccomend for seedlings that won’t stand up

Yes you can use that method, although sunflowers usually germinate very easily, even when in bad soil, so germination on napkins is not necessary. If your seedling won't stand up burry its stem up to where the seed leaves are, burry the smooth stem, not the hairy stem above the seed leaves. If it still doesn't stand tie it to a small stick or bamboo cane and place it in a sunnier position, its stem should thicken after a few weeks and it should be able to support itself.
