Thank you! I needed this video. I threw down some Fescue seed on my lawn that had large bare spots about 3 weeks ago and noticed that I should have never followed the instructions on my seed packaging. I should have threw down much more. With that being said... Round 2 starts tomorrow! Along with Step 5 of your Cool Lawn Program.

great advice. You was talking about seeds washing into street from watering. Got a easy fix for you... When you are raking, you want to rake parallel to the road.. this is why farmers don't plant up and down hills, they plant sideways on hills so water running down don't cause a wash out.. the water will stay in the valleys.. Since you are planting grass you want those seeds to get caught just like hunting for gold... it will get hung up in the ripples.

The Lawn Care Nut , LCN, in one of your videos you had a grass plug puller. It pulled out square plugs and you transplanted them into different spots in our yard. Where can I find one? I can only find a small round one, it's just a tube! And the grass plugs are much smaller. I'm pretty sure it's designed to dig holes for bulbs, but they also try to pass it off as a grass plug puller. Please send me a link (or send me your grass plugger) Thank you! P.S. Going to throw down some milorganite! But first I will be measuring my lawn to get some more accurate numbers and better results. Thanks for all the videos Justin

cool video Alan, can't wait to see the results. Back in the 90s I was living in Dubai where I worked, the lawn guy came over to our yard where I lived in a company owned house to lay some grass seed, temperatures were like 140 in the shade which made me laugh as I thought the seed would never germinate, two weeks later he was mowing the lawn!!! I wish I knew what seed he used as it was amazing.

I followed your seeding plan almost to the t. Only thing i did off the reservation was cook the weed seeds in the soil by covering it with a 4mil clear plastic a whole month in the hot summer before seeding in september. The results were phenominal. Very uniform tttf with no weeds with a well timed tenacity app.

Full disclosure: My current lawn is on hard pan clay subsoil left after construction. A 50/50 compost/blackdirt mix was ordered before 100% kbg. I was dominating before snow fall! I am always open to learning more and am very curious if my attempt to boost OM was a rookie mistake.

Allyn, thanks for your service. I'm stationed over here in Wiesbaden, Germany and my dog destroyed my lawn. I'm going to plant some seed this spring but wonder if you had any suggestions as to which grass to use. And also, how early is too early to start. Currently, the temp is in the mid 30s most days. But in a few weeks, it should start getting to the 40 degree average. Any thoughts?

Reasonable tips. I live in Eastern Washington in the Pacific Northwest. We are having a late spring. One thing you failed to mention was seed eating birds. I pride myself on a nice rich green lawn but I’ve had those birds pick away with peat moss and make me have to patch a patch. A dummy plastic owl perched above has proven worthwhile to me for this.

I've never choked a lawn yet but I have choked up a lawn mower with grass being too thick. I use a rotary spreader for fertilizing most of the time unless it gas an herbicide in it in which case I use a drop spreader so I don't hit plants and shrubbery with herbicide. I always seed with a drop spreader. It's still the best way to obtain the most even coverage and coverage exactly where you want it.
