We have a Horse Chestnut Tree here in America, planted in 1872, a.k.a. the First Arbor Day. I've culled some chestnuts from it, and learned that you need to freeze them first, sink them in a water bowl, and ONLY take the ones that stay on the bottom. Nice to see they shoot-up so fast Feb to March is quite quick. Very encouraged

I only recently learn the flowers they produce and the pink flowers are amazing but i worry about growing one from a conker and it nt having pink leaves, does ot matter if i get them from a tree that produces pink flowers or am i get trying to get a cutting?

They're beautiful trees, but the amount of chestnuts they drop in the fall is more than I care to deal with. Not that I have much of a choice in the matter haha. Incredible trees in the spring and summer though.

@@GoneFishingNow well I've just been outside with a torch and planted a couple in individual pots, before my wife makes autumn displays all over the bloody house with them. I'll keep collecting them up and potting them up and see what happens, I omly want 1 to make a bonsai tree from.

This time I was cold stratifying Common Horse-Chestnut seeds in the refrigerator but they did not germinate at all. All of them have failed to germinate. The reason why they did not germinate is because I did not store the seeds properly. I stored them in the warm room temperature. What is the temperature for storing horse chestnut seeds before stratification? Where should I store Common Horse-Chestnut seeds before cold stratifying them? Where can I store those seeds at? Which one is the best seed storage location before stratification? Please make sure that you should reply to my comment.

The horsechestnuts I picked up were naturally cold stratified. I picked them up in early spring after they spent the winter on the ground under the mother tree. If you want to artificially stratify put the horsechestnuts in a bag and place in the refrigerator for a few weeks. I did that with other garden seeds and it worked well.

@@GoneFishingNow So if you want to cold stratify Horse-Chestnut seeds, you have to store the seeds in the refrigerator first before stratification. Collect Horse Chestnut seeds in fall. After collecting seeds in fall from outside, go home and store all of the chestnuts in the refrigerator for a very long time before stratification. Storing Horse Chestnuts in the refrigerator is the best seed storage location because makes them stay viable and live longer. Do not store chestnuts in hot temperatures because it is going to rot and die, they will fail to germinate. Seed storage temperatures are about 33-40 Degrees Fahrenheit (0.6-4 Degrees Celsius). You have to keep the seeds cool and dry.

They just need to get some cold for a few weeks then you can plant directly into a big tub. Dig them up a few weeks later and plant individually each chestnut that has germinated. Its pretty easy.

I won't keep them in pots for to long, probably plant them into the ground come summer.

I have been growing a sapling for the last 2 years it's about 4ft tall now and great health. I repotted it in spring to a 100 liter bucket with fresh compost and its doubled in size... What time of the year is best to plant it in a wood or Forrest 👍

They say winter is the best time to plant tree's when their asleep but I have transplanted them in spring to late spring with success. Let me know how it goes.
