We recently discovered kohlrabi! We find that, so far, the white kohlrabi grows much faster than the purple variety. We love the taste of the white variety! Our purple one is still n the ground so we will have to wait and see if we like the taste as well. I think we will. This veggie is so versatile. We have made dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Green smoothies at breakfast and even kohlrabi ice cream for dessert. Yum! Thanks for sharing.

My friends and I would eat Kohlrabi like apples out of my mothers garden when we were kids. I'm going to try them in my garden this spring.

Hi Mary. Yes, Kohl Rabi are amazing looking and quick and easy to grow. Can I ask how you cook them as I could do with a few new ideas?

Great video, love it that you show the plant at all stages of development. I'm a big fan of kohlrabi but they are quite hard to come by in Ireland unfortunately. I will attempt to grow them for the first time this year, happy to see that they grow well here!

Something is eating at my koloraby leaves. What should I spray? It looks like the growth is stunted too. Stopped growing, what feterlizer should I use?

Thanks for sharing this video. This is my first time growing veg. I sowed kohlrabi indoors last week and I wonder, do I need to 'harden' them off before transplanting outside in a few weeks?

I overfed them on nitrogen I think, so got huge leaves. I am not going to feed them much this year and see what happens. They are growing in a container this time, 3 per 25L pot.
@Darkfalz79

Doing much better this time, leaves aren't getting over-big and stems already swelling. It's not true that you can't bury them deep - the bulb forms around the first sets of leaves, burying up to cotyledons is not a problem.

Beautyful plants! Are the leaves edible too?
@Quickcrop
@Quickcrop 8 жыл бұрын
+moeder vanbranko Hi - Thanks for watching and leaving a question - the answer is yes - you can eat the leaves too. They are best when they are boiled or steamed for a few minutes like any other green leaf vegetables. And there are other ways to cook them too, depending on your taste. For example - they can be used in a stir fry. And finally - they can be eaten raw in salads. Also if you have any other questions, or even suggestions for the next videos we make - please do tell me and we will consider making it.

Thank you for your reply! That's great to hear, I will certainly give it a try. I'm a first year gardener and am experimenting with these little cucumbers (augurk/gurkins) which i really love. Could you make a video on them please? And horse radish? While i'm at it, how about growing herbs from seads? For example rosemary, sage, cilantro, mint, to name a few. Thanx in advance. Love your channel!

+moeder vanbranko Hi again - and sorry for delayed reply - to be honest I was so busy out in our garden with some unseasonal and very beautiful weather - thanks so much for all your ideas. I was just thinking I need to do something on little cucumbers "AND" unbelievably some of the other of the herbs you mentioned. The the key thing about gardening is its all based on the quality of your soil and some gentle maintenance, but I will do my best to help with tips etc. We intend to do shorter videos for people starting out in the next few weeks, and hopefully we will have some of them done for next week.. I appreciate they are not on the vegetables you mentioned but I thought it might be nice to be the first person I tell, since you were so helpful in your comments. The newest videos are about planting 3 different types of berries and onions. But I hope to get around to doing your choices soon. In the meantime - feel free to ask any questions And I'll do my best to get back to you quickly.

i see white butterflys with a small white dot on their wings .... ? this is bad and I should catch and kill ?
@Quickcrop
@Quickcrop 7 жыл бұрын
They sound like cabbage white butterflies, if left they will massacre your brassicas. Remove their eggs and larvae and place netting over your vulnerable veg.

ok thanks your right .... problem solved when i came to look at my garden tonight my salad and carrots had all be dug up by a wild boar so i guess a white butterfly isnt so bad !

invest in a butterfly net and try catching and killing as many as you can. they are devils!! i did that this year along with netting and i can tell the cabbage moth population declined.

Great. We have regular attacks from Cabbage White butterfly, netting seems to help keep them at bay. Inspect the plants regularly and remove any caterpillars. Still like the idea of the the Whiteboard Fly, the schoolteachers's revenge.
