I'm travelling across the American West in an RV but I missed homegrown veggies, especially lettuce. So I saved some metal cans and fast food cups, filled them with dirt, and now I've got radishes, carrots, onions, and lettuce growing. I park facing south and they sit on my dash; when I travel they get stowed wherever the sun is shining, or in winter get put under solar-powered LED lighting when the sun clocks out early. I'm kinda proud of my little travelling garden; it's already saved me a bunch of money and I literally just used soil and ash and leftover winter seeds to make it, so cost me almost nothing.

@@vinkinpark you guys sound like you have been successful growing lettuce indoors, I have tried growing it indoors and have yet to be successful because my lettuce grows and then die after a week or so not even big enough to harvest, my pot was an old 4L frosted plastic ice cream container I used grow lights, because I wanted year round lettuce and my pot had holes on the bottom, any advice on how I can grow lettuce indoors? I love how you say with container gardening "we can make something that is not as ideal into something that is ideal". I just started gardening this year during the pandemic. I often ask people if they garden. Whenever they reply that they live in an apartment or condo or a house with no garden I always tell them they can buy grow bags (possibilities) which can flourish.

@@cookiemama4 zucchini needs lots of space to grow so it is better to grow them in the ground not in a container. If you only have the space or option to use containers then grow other plants because there are lots of good options out there, example peppers do well in containers.

Because of limited garden space and intruding roots from nearby trees, I've been switching over to all containers. LOVE this!! I like making my own growing medium too and recycling the soils after each season. Getting ready to plant lettuce again and realizing how shallow their roots are, I fill in the bottom half of pots, like in the video, with chunks of styrofoam, which normally go into the landfill. Improves drainage. I used to use chunks of brick, concrete, rocks, shells, etc. but they always made the pots too heavy. Then my "bulb" lit up one day and I decided to give it a try!! Bingo! So, I share this with folks and also the appliance delivery guys last week, as they were unboxing my washer. They loved the idea and said they'd share too. Happy growing!! Life is good. It's even better when you garden!!!

Pat Skipper styrofoam is leaching bad stuff. I know, that Americans still use styrofoam picnic cups, but it doesn’t make it right thing to do, both for environment and health. Even if you do use styrofoam cups to drink not hot beverages it is less harmful than let it sit in the pot mixed with fertilizers

Hi! For the past few weeks, I've been watching almost all of your videos and I just love them. I've learned so much, and I am now seriously obsessed with gardening. This growing season will be my second garden ever and I'm so excited it's ridiculous. I was wondering if you had any updates on this particular video topic? I've never seen another video with someone planting so many plants in about a square foot. I actually gave this method a go after watching this video and planted some arugula, corn salad, salad bowl lettuce, spinach, and red lettuce in two giant pots and I'm looking forward to eating delicious salads. I never had home grown leaves before to eat so I can't express enough the anticipation of my seeds germinating and taking off. So thank you so much for your inspiring channel.. they have really propelled me into my unknown passion for gardening. I never had something I was really into and could even be good at. I tried so many things out in my life, but gardening became very special to me and you and a bunch of other youtubers have inspired the hell out of me. Peace!

All of my gardening this year had to be done in containers on the small deck off my apartment. I am already growing tons of lettuce with this exact same method. I was able to buy several trough/rail planters to use for lettuce. Saves room on the deck for my tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. I'm also trying a zucchini, but I doubt it will be successful. Don't know unless I try. Great video as always - ill make sure to fertilize.

Interesting. I was taught not to crowd the container. I will have to try it with one or 2 containers this year. Thank you for this video.

"Screw what other people say about perfectionism." Agreed although I might use some more curse words during that sentence, I agree 100%. My wife loves leaf lettuce for salads. At 3-5 dollars a bag...and spending 10 bucks on seeds...I grew her around 40 large bags of salad this year...and the fall harvest isn't even going yet. I feel like I won this battle. Also, the seeds came from your store. 90% produced very, very well.

Yes inspired your video has done that. I live in BC Canada and we don't get the luxury of heat and sun for an extended time. I have a large deck on my condo and have decided to grow some edibles instead of all flowers. Last year I grew a tomato plant that went crazy. Well I have done my research and found out there are two different types of tomatoes. I was growing an indeterminate that should have been pruned. This year its all about determinates, some peppers and now thanks to your video some lettuce. Thank you for posting such excellent vids.

Despite having grown lettuce before, this would have never occurred to me. I am so pleased at finding the channel...as you can see I'm starting with stuff I can probably get started this year so everything doesn't have to wait on Scottish weather lol!

I've basically been relegated to patio gardening. Because we've got to regrow the lawn where I had my garden growing. So this is perfect for me for the next two seasons. 😊

spongebobspongebob24 The majority of people who purchase homes don't want a big garden in the yard. So my husband is replanting lawn into the area that was my garden.
