Have you learned that the 5 gallon orange Home Depot buckets are not food grade and it isn't safe to grow food in them? Please do a little research. The same is probably true for some of the other containers being used here. Cancer isn't fun.

Love those little dudes dipped in ranch dressing or raspberry vinaigrette, mixed with ranch dressing...such a pretty pink dip. The crunch helps me walk past potato chips at the grocery. LOLOL. I live in an RV Park and really love to garden. I do seem to have gone overboard though. I have over 50 plants growing in containers. This includes 3 tomato plants that made it through the winter. I have about 8 tomato plants, 12 pepper plants in 3 colors of peppers, 6 cucumber and 6 spaghetti squash, and I have several herbs. The rest are plants for looks and color. I also have 3 large lemon and purple grass.

Great advice on container gardening. I already started mine for the first time and realize that some of my pots are not big enough to accommodate my tomato plants and others. ( I told my husband to buy new ones, but he said we have some!) They are fruiting beautifully , but they need more space. The tomatoes plants are getting tall and huge! I do have a determinate variety which is a lot slower to fruit. You gave a very concise and complete explanation of what you can do. Thank you! New subscriber . ❤

I had so many volunteer tomatoes come up last year I decided to make use of 15 or so yellow cat litter buckets that were about 5 gallon capacity that I had. I drilled 1/2" holes in the bottoms of them, and transplanted the volunteers to the buckets. I had no need or desire to container garden until then but I ended up giving many away to friends and have created some new gardeners from those gifts last year. I also got rid of those yellow buckets I was hoarding for some unknown reason!

Containers make it easier for me, because this year, I have more responsibility taking care of my husband, who is being forgetful, and an older dog who has kidney failure. I will turn my plant pots into flowers AND VEGGIES.I bought a couple of plastic wide enough for a large plant, AND it has rope handles for easy yanking around the area for Sun and rain issues. I always disliked Bachelor's buttons, but I saw some huge blooms at a nursery, and I asked the lady how she got the blooms so fluffy, and big. She said, that they Don't like too much rain, so she moves them around when it rains. I like that feature, so my pots are ready, and frost is pretty much gone in my area of Ohio. Time to blast my music, and dig. Thank you for this valuable video.note...my pots are on the patio, and the hose is there as well. There are shrubs nearby and I can use them for protection from wind or heavy rains. And sheltering the plants in a group will be easier, as long as they get plenty of air circulation. And it will be easier to see issues from bugs or other critters, like the squirrels we feed.

After watching your video on container gardening, this may be the answer to solve my gardening fix here in Arizona. Between utilizing the milder fall and winter days, shielding the plants from the extreme heat at the beginning of fall and then bringing them in when we have a light dip in temp would work well with the few plants that I want to enjoy. I grew a ton of awesome indeterminate tomatoes in 10 gallon grow bags last year. They did really well - better than I expected. The biggest pain was figuring out how to give them enough support. In the end, I lined them up & did a Florida weave with t-posts. It was a pain & wasn't the prettiest setup, but it worked well enough.

Good information Scott. We expanded our operations by increasing our container growing greatly. I quit counting but we are well over 30 and possible even 40. Primary reasons were to organize many herbs in one place, save on space for melons and to try new things as you suggested. That is a great reason to use a container. Very handy approach for new peppers or tomatoes or basil, etc. Have a great week Scott. 👍👍
