Michael, I was born in 1947, in England and believe it not, when we were kids, we used to buy, from the sweet shop, Liquorice root. Also called Spanish Wood. We would just chew on it and suck the flavor out. That was a cheap candy for us 😁🥰

I was in Seville in january and they still sell these roots on the street. I smuggled some to my country and planted two pieces, and thay started growing in about two weeks.

You can still buy it as a treat in some tea stores! Only exception now is that it is NOT cheap - hence my presence under this video lol 😆

I've been trying to grow licorice from seed but the seeds I keep buying are riddled with mold and have very low germination rates and are unhealthy. Maybe it's better to buy some propagation roots.

Hi, where can I buy some roots for propagation? Thank you very much for uploading this video! Kind regards, Dan George

Dried chopped licorice root soaked in water overnight will make a fantastic drink, it is a traditional drink in the Middle East. I do not know if the American licorice route will have the same taste or effect as the European licorice root .

Hi Michael, this (Glycyrrhiza glabra) can't be grown in the midwest can it? Zone 5/6? If not, can this be grown indoors under a good light? What is best temp/humidity? Thank you.

Can anyone recommend how to kill liquorice. My garden ( in Spain) is full of it, the roots are growing out of my garden and under the public road and breaking the road up. I’ve tried using roundup but that only kills the surface plant down to ground level, then it grows back.

Nah. I grew some in southern california and it had some excellent roots on it within 2 years. I harvested because I had to move. Put it in sandy loamy soil and make sure there's only superficial ground cover like cloves growing around it for easy harvest.

Thanks for the tip, @@LegalTyranny !

@@TheMiig1513 No problem. Remember, sand loamy soil, basically the stuff all over SoCal. It's insanely easy to harvest that way. No rocks or other stuff to deal with. Just make sure it's gets ideal watering and fertilizer. Google that stuff. Good luck. Nothing like growing your own and knowing it's clean and chemical free.
