✅Important Guidelines:
Air layering is a method of propagating plants by creating roots on a stem while it is still attached to the mother plant. This can be done with many different types of plants, including mango trees.
The best time to air layer a mango tree is during the spring or early summer and rainy season, when the weather is humid and warm. This will help the roots to form quickly.
Materials You'll Need:
Sharp pruning shears or a knife
Cocopeat rooting medium
Plastic wrap or plastic bag
Twine or zip tie
Aloe Vera (optional)
A healthy mango tree
Steps:
Select a Branch: Choose a healthy, 2-year-old branch that is about 1 inch thick. The branch should be located in a shady spot on the tree.
Prepare the Branch: Make a clean cut around the selected branch, Make a cut in the bark of the branch, about 1 inch long. Remove some of the bark from the cut area. This will expose the cambium layer, which is the layer of cells that will produce roots.
Aloe Vera (Optional): You can also use a Aloe Vera gel, but this is not necessary.
Fill a polythene bag with cocopeat, and tie it tightly to the cut part of the branch. This creates a sealed, humid environment for root development.
Wait for Roots to Develop: In about 6-8 weeks, you should see roots forming in the Cocopeat.
Once the roots are about 2 inches long, you can cut the branch from the mother plant.
Plant the rooted branch in a pot of Soil and compost mix.
Water the plant 2 time in a week and keep it in a shady spot.
The newly planted branch will need about 4 to 6 months to establish itself. Once it is established, you can move it to a sunny spot in your yard. Plant the air-layered mango tree into a pot filled with well-draining potting mix or directly into the ground.
Care for the New Mango Tree: Provide proper care to the newly planted mango tree, including regular watering and protection from harsh sun and strong winds.
