Hello, Just when I lost faith in the mushroom community you commented on my video on the new mushroom growing group. Thank you so much after stalking you I found this, I will watch all your videos now and as we speak all my strains are being studied by New Zealand's government Mycologist to get them sequenced. Out of all the people in the world I hope to share these new oysters no one has ever grown to you (somehow). Look forward to seeing more of you. If ever you need a hand on KZbin I have been helping and studying it for 10 years. Don't forget your keywords in the description first nice and short :) subadubed and belled you... You never know who your help out there in cyberland btw I am a fat bald man haha thank you so much sir!

Corrígeme si me equivoco.??

Hey I got a question... As I started trying LC my idea was to innoculate the substrate directly and skipping spawn since shaken LC should have more small innocculation points than any grain probably could and therefore colonize quicker than using Grains. Have you tried that? What were your results? Does it take less or more time than when you use spawn? And if so, why do you think?

I noticed you dont have much of a plenum of air after your seal. Its something I have difficulty in obtaining using the impulse sealer, and it makes it difficult to shake up after. Do you find not having much of a plenum is ok and doesnt affect the spawn run?

Nice video again. Hey wanted you to know I used the "Mossy" coupon code at North Spore and I'm gonna use it at House of Hydro pretty soon for the discount, thanks for that. I wanted to run something past you. I watched your video on cleaning the grow room and I've been thinking and reading on what is best to use in my grow room as far as safety and killing mold and bacteria. I saw you use bleach & soap. I was reading that white distilled vinegar might be the best option. 1) Bleach can be harmful to the lungs, so even with a ventilated room we would still get a whiff of bleach here and there so we probably need to wear a vapor mask instead of the particulate mask we usually wear in the grow room. 2) Bleach does not penetrate porous materials such as concrete, wood, etc., so it doesn't get down to the root of mold growing in pores... vinegar does. So just some thoughts I wanted to get your opinion on... I'm going to use distilled & undiluted white vinegar to clean the walls and floors in the grow room and thought I'd run it past you.

Quick question...Newbie here. I have 4, 6lb sterile substrate blocks and O.M. grain spawn. I have alcohol in a spray bottle. I don't have a sealer or any other large scale mushroom farmer equipment. Can I still do this safely? Any suggestions? Thanks Tons from Vancouver Island BC!

I do 5 pounds per 25 bags, it works fine for me. It’s been going great so far, I wish I could do as much as you, but I need more help and time to get that much going.....coffee and rice hulls do not lend to your methods of filling blocks/bags. I am kind of strapped to how I do things as the moisture is done by feel, because the coffee varies in how much water it holds. I don’t add water, I add bran to the mix to soak up excess water(not much). When I am going for a couple more months, I will tackle making a system for doing more bags based on subtractive moisture. A note, coffee works great for all mushrooms, I have fifty bags of turkey tail loving that stuff, the fruit would make stamet jelous(probably not, but still impressive) lions mane as well, great second flushes. I am doing maitake next, and I will eventually try matsutake. I see every one of your videos....thanks!

Hello. I hope you can help me. I have done 30 blocks of oak sawdust, from agar to grain never had more than 2 contam and all of these bags went "dirty". I have used oak sawdust i got from a wood factory of a friend, could that be the issue? SInce its not pellets and didnt went trough the heating process? I will give it a go and sterilize more time. What can i do? Would Pasteurization instead of Sterilization do the deal? Since i am a home grower i am starting to see that probably grain to sterile bulk substrate is an issue, but how can i grow edibles then??

I really really don't want to sound like a nit picker and mean...but. Again, the end of the bag and heat sealer are outside of the hepa flow (can't deny it this time as it was lined-up as end on in the shot). The spawn bag was also outside of the hepa air stream while filling a bag. Your fingers went inside a bag about to be filled..... Perhaps this video is not demonstrating the best sterile technique to be teaching people. But hey, white rot mushrooms are easy to grow and will kill most bacteria if they get in (not so much so regarding mold - yikes). It really does show that if done in a clean room, sterile technique is not all that important when growing these ferocious fast growing species. Up here in Canada we can inoc bags with white rot and brown rot species outside (no hepa at all) in winter when it is perfectly calm with virtually no contams. I'm not sure that alcohol all over each bag is actually doing anything besides harming you. ;-) Nice video though. I really do enjoy them!

5lbs of grain spawn / 40 bags = 0.125lbs 1.25% of 12lbs means 2 oz grain spawn/substrate ratio is my maths correct? 😳
