It's the property spacing, 2.5' feet, it really is, because spacing #blueberry #bushes farther apart will not lead to an increase in yield or #berry production, like many people often think. Blueberry drip #irrigation holes are spaced every 18" inches apart between each blueberry plant. But the drip irrigation tubing comes in all types of spacing, drip irrigation is cheap though and comes in 1,000 foot rolls and you only need 3 rolls per acre, so that's only about $450 per acre for the drip tubing to complete your blueberry field irrigation. Nice lay out. Ive been thinking about planting some rows of blueberrys. My produce grow area is 5.5 acres. I wonder is I put just two rows 165ft long to start would be enough for picking and not run out.

When you are ready to plant some blueberries plants just let us know. If you plant those 5.5 acres of blueberries you mentioned, that can give you a great second income for retirement. Most growers suggest a spacing of about 5 feet for northern highbush blueberries. Why do you have yours spaced so closely. Do you prune them to keep them small?

Any growers who are suggesting spacing of 5' feet apart for high bush blueberry plants do not know what they are talking about. Yes, generations ago the old farmers thought that spacing blueberry bushes farther apart will allow better growth and yield more blueberries, but this proved not to be true. The DiMeo family as a whole has close to 1,000 acres of acres of blueberries currently in production, and the blueberry bushes are all spaced 2.5' feet apart to maximize use of the land without compromising blueberry yield or overall production of blueberries. The plants in this video were not pruned. It was a new field of blueberry plants that were just starting out. If you space 5' feet apart you will just be wasting space because it will not lead to any advantages as far as yield and production. Do you have to have that much room between rows if I am planting in my yard? Or is that just for your machines.

Your row spacing is always determined by what type of equipment you are farming with commercially, or growing with at home. For example, blueberry farmers like us use row crop tractors that require only a 9' foot wide spacing between each row. But if you are growing at home in your yard, maybe you are using a rototiller to till between the rows, or maybe a lawnmower to cut between each of the rows. If that is the case, then the row spacing can be reduced down to about 6' feet wide instead of our recommended 9' foot wide spacing. Planting 5' feet apart would be way too far apart. The spacing of 2.5' feet apart is maximizing the usage of your land, without compromising yield. Many years ago, old timers though that planting 4 to 5' foot apart would increase #blueberry yield but this is simply not the case. You can space them that far apart, but it will not increase yield or production per acre, but rather would just be cosmetic. Make the best use of your land space and such by planting closer at 2.5' feet apart. Members of our family have literally hundreds of acres of #blueberries and they are all spaced 2.5' feet apart. How did you do your irrigation?

It's drip irrigation. Very cheap to do, as an entire 1,000' foot roll of drip irrigation only costs around $150 dollars or so and you simply snake it around every two plants, and go right down the row. Drip irrigation is only required if you are planting 1/4 acre or more, otherwise, if someone is just planting a couple rows of #blueberries then you can just get a cheap drip garden hose from Walmart or somewhere and use that to keep it simple. You should space blueberry plants 2.5' feet between each blueberry plant, down the row, because spacing them farther apart than that spacing will not necessarily lead to an increase of blueberries yield or production like some people think it will. As far as the spacing between rows, that is dictated by the width of your tractor, for example if you have speciality row crop tractors like us, then the spacing is only 9' feet between each row, since speciality row crop #tractors are only 5' feet wide, but if you have a standard #tractor with a three-point hitch on the back, then you should go 10' feet wide to give yourself some space so you don't damage the blueberry bushes as you are going down the blueberry field row: www.DiMeoFarms.com

Do you add sulfur to your crops?

You should add sulfur to your blueberry field if your pH level is too high, and you should also add limestone to your #blueberry field if your pH is too low. I know that many blueberry farms don't like to add limestone, but they really should if their pH levels start getting into the 3's or the low 4's but this is what we recommend.
