Yes, you are correct and we had a meeting with other top blueberry growers this past winter and everyone agrees, all the top blueberry farmers and blueberry experts alike, to date, there is no proven alternative to Duke and that's a fact. I purchased mine from DiMeo Farms about six years ago and they just get better every year. They are planted in containers, and I overwinter them and then gradually expose them to the cold air in March.

How long does peat moss last in the soil? Is there a way to replace peat moss in the ground for an established plant or is that even necessary?

Some new research shows that co planting grasses next to blueberries makes iron available to the plants in the same way an acidic soil (like peat moss) does. I’m starting my small blueberry patch of roughly 25 plants in the peat moss/ sand mix DiMeo recommends, and will be experimenting with grass coplanting to reduce my need for more peat.

The aronia berry is best used for juicing. Take a handful of aronia berries (fresh or frozen) and add them to your juicer when you are juicing spinach, kale and other berries such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc. The aronia black chokeberry is a very healthy berry but the truth is that not many people know about it and know about all of it's great health benefits. That would explain how the first couple of blueberry bushes I bought from big box stores died the last one I bought was a runt and I babied it and put it outside and it's alive still

That is one of the best kept secrets in the plant industry. Few people ask about cold hardiness which is what they all should be asking about because all these online nurseries and other places are only using greenhouses and high tunnels to grow blueberry plants and they will look great when you get them, but they will lack cold hardiness and people end up losing a whole bunch of plants and then eventually come to us to buy their blueberry plants and bushes. www.DiMeoFarms.com

High tunnels and greenhouses are great for summer producing annuals but for perennials you are right, they make for weak plants.

The biggest problem with most plants today is that they lack cold hardiness. That’s because all these online nurseries and big box stores are all now using greenhouses and high tunnels to grow and raise all their plants (including blueberry plants) so that they can push them with heat all winter long and get them to grow faster. But that ruins the cold hardiness of the plants, because they have never been outside through a real actual winter before you bought them. Yes, when you first buy them, they might look great, but then when winter comes around and they experience frost, freeze, ice, snow and freezing cold temperatures for the very first time, guess what, that’s on your dime, and you will end up losing a lot of plants. This is why our grandfather never liked greenhouses, and why our DiMeo blueberry plants and bushes are not greenhouse grown, and it’s why they are super cold hardy. www.DiMeoFarms.com
