In this video I'm going to show you how to grow peanuts at home in your organic garden. Growing peanuts is easy if you meet just a few basic needs. I'm growing peanuts in a raised bed. I live in a warm dry climate with a long growing season. But there are things you can do if you live in a shorter season. I am doing this video in collaboration with Paul Wells. She lives in a hot and humid climate with a shorter growing season. We will be comparing our successes and failures and who gets the best harvest over the next few months. You can watch Paula's progress on her channel here: • How To Grow Peanuts At...

I was born and raised in Georgia, and I love boiled peanuts. So I grew them for the first time last year, although my family always grew them. I'm growing them again this year. Just be aware that we generally pick the variety of peanuts to grow based on what you plan to do with them, e.g. roasting versus boiling. They were truly a breeze to grow. I did not pre-sprout them and grew them in pure compost in a raised bed. Not fussy at all. I'm in Maryland zone 7b. I grew Red Valencia peanuts. You're going to love doing this!!!

We grew them last season, only pulled them up a few weeks ago, just two plants but got a fair few pods. We will try again in late September. Interesting, that here in Australia they are all just marked as peanut seeds, haven't seen any different varieties.

Probably about 10 years ago I bought a pack from Baker Creek seeds and planted them. At the time I knew nothing about peanuts, but later in the season I pulled up the plants and had peanuts! Haven't planted them since, but I am interested. to do so. Virginia, zone 7.

When I was a school kid, we had community vegetable garden in the schoolyard. We mostly grew dill, parsley, carrots, beets, and potatoes, but some of us, including me, were insane and tried growing the funky things, including peanuts. We tried a few years and only succeeded once. They were nice and very tender, much better than the awful ones sold in Soviet stores. I think you will have much better success though. Where I grew up, we had a very short growing season (sometimes there was snow in June) and extreme temperature variations between seasons - down to minus 52 C in the winter and up to plus 48 C in the summer, with 90% humidity. I wish you the best of luck with your peanuts and look forward to seeing you harvesting them when they grow :)

I grew peanuts from Baker Creek in raised last couple years, the Fastigiata Pin Striped, in zone 9b Sacramento. They grew well and the peanut pods were huge . The peanut itself has purple stripes and very sweet. The only experience I would add to your planting tips is spacing. They need a lot of space so they can extend out the branches and touch the soil to form peanuts, 8 inch spacing might be too close, especially the rows by the edges of your raised bed.

Just a note about my experience with Grassroots. I ordered a fabric container from them. At no point did they provide the shipping cost until after the order placed. It was more than the cost of the container. They were great about processing the cancelation and refunding my money. I was bummed but just could not afford to spend that much at that moment.

I tried growing peanuts once, many years ago (PA zone 6). I just sowed them in my ordinary garden soil, no special treatment. My plants produced a bumper crop of peanuts, but the cold weather set in too soon, and most of them were immature. If I were to try them again, I would start them indoors. It was fascinating to see how they grow.

Ok 1 of the 13 is called cotton Mesquite you use this for BBQ when you get mesquite at store for well BBQ but the rest well are used for food. All mesquite trees are drought tolerant and they grow 3 feet a year if from seed tell its 7 years then its 1 foot a year they normally max out at 35 feet sometimes 45 feet if it gets lots of water all the time.

I planted spanish peanuts for the summer crop in my raised bed. Looking forward to watching them grow and harvesting home grown peanuts! I'm not sure if I missed it, did you use any inoculant? I'm not sure if peanuts really need it or not, but I read that they should be inoculated if you have not grown them before. They are a legume, but require a different inoculant than beans and peas. Maybe they are naturally inoculated being that they grow underground?

5 species of peanuts. Only the Virginia (larger seeds) and runner (smaller seeds) genus give peanuts seeds. The Virginia genus has 11 current-industrial use - while there are 16 out of former production. The runner genus has 18 current-industrial-use - while there are 19 out of former production. Plenty to choose from for growing with 28 current and 35 former genus available. (Clemson University references).

The first year I did peanuts I did in containers in the greenhouse and containers outside to see the difference. The ones in the greenhouse at first did better, but before long the heat was just too much for them and I had to move them outside. I'd say do them in containers in the greenhouse so that when it reaches too high of temps you can move them outside. That would extend your season nicely. I'm in 5b.
