How to grow a pear tree from seed - month 46.
I started these pear trees from store bought seed (D'Anjou Pears) on 7/10/16. They are now 46 months old.
In this video, I'll catch you up on the 3 young pear trees and also show you my other pear varieties, Bartlett and Orient - which are now 5 and 6 year old trees, respectively.
I'm hoping these three D 'Anjou pear trees can really put on some explosive growth this year NOW that they have finally grown enough to hopefully handle the Texas Summers and weathering their second "winter," fighting fire blight, and acclimating to the Texas Clay.
I'm optimistic that they'll really take off now that they will get the nutrients from the soil and the sun since they seem to finally set down healthy roots!
It's been a fight getting them acclimated after spending almost 8 months indoors. I am currently giving them a half dose of tree and shrub fertilizer (14-14-14) and doing my best to keep them well watered and free of pests, like aphids and white flies, as well as keeping my eyes on their leaves for any more sight of the dreaded fire blight!
I plan on being more diligent in keeping this series updates throughout the year, so stay tuned and join me as we see them go from seed to fruit bearing trees - I hope!
Here is the entire series from episode 1:

I never plant any trees that close to my house. I am afraid the roots might mess with my house foundation. But i do have pears in my yard. I planted all my fruit trees away from my house in the places that had much sun. I just replanted a peach tree a few days ago into my yard that i started out in a pot.

I always end up rooting for the underdog trees in your series, and this one is no different. It seems to be adapting to the location, and maybe will eventually surprise you. I am surprised you didn't plant a bosc pear. They get overlooked for their appearance, but are pretty sweet.

All our trees, especially the younger ones has chicken wire around the base. Does nothing for the deer, but keeps the rabbits from getting a free lunch. 🐇 🐇. Got some apple seeds started. But must trees are grafted. We use the Ann Ralph method of growing and pruning

I chop chunks of Irish Spring or Coast bar soap around the plants. Keeps the deer away.

Beautiful! My pear is a nursery bought, had a couple pears last year, hoping for more this year.. that being said I'm a also in zone 5B so I get a good amount of cold for them. My Peach from seed took off last year, is going into is fourth year, but was stunted because of pests when I started it.. last year it finally got planted out in the yard and put on more than three feet of growth.. Looks super healthy and will hopefully flower in the next couple of years. I've started done goji from seed and Russian almonds from seed.. On another note, a Cherry tree I dug up from a mother tree, a water sprout of a root, is breaking its buds and planted in the ground this year. It's the third summer now, so hopefully this year we get some good grown from it. Great garden, Rob! Looking amazing as always, sorry about the crabby dying, that must have been a blow. But you can plant another there now.. Maybe one of your plums

Pears grow massive. 10 to 20 metres some of them. I'm watching because I want to concentrate on fruit in the garden so I am thinking pears and apples. I have a few things but I want some espaliers. My idea is to grow several from seed and use them as root stock and graft a couple of varieties. I admire your enthusiasm and perseverance. I have a peach that I grew from seed and this year it is fruiting very heavily for the first time. Hope I can keep the ants at bay.

loving these trees from seed videos! most of the other videos on youtube are just someone transplanting a little tree and you never see the results. I found your channel looking for videos about growing citrus in containers. I've had a key lime tree for like 10 years and just sprouted some of the seeds from its fruit this spring. also planted a couple apple trees last year(grafted plants from a nursery). it's kinda a challenge growing things outdoors in my climate (wet part of canada) but partially because of your videos I'm planning on trying to start some various fruit trees from seeds (apple, peach, plum, pear, w.e else I can get). what do you think about starting fruit trees in pots and transplanting them outdoors v.s. starting them in a patch outdoors and moving them into a final location?

My Ayers pear tree had leaves like that for awhile. Interestingly, I thought I was giving it enough water but the black edges on my leaves only went away when I started watering it more. Of course, yours could still be some odd disease but I don't really think that it is fire blight.

If the fruit is no good you could try to graft on some tasty varieties onto a couple of branches. My father in law was a pear tree with 4 pear varieties on it.

I think you need to trim your tree at the male branches, so they wil have more females branches , this is important because females branches will have bloom and fruits and your tree will not too tall and good looking for the shape ! How you think! Thank you for sharing your video!

@@RobBackyardGardenerr cool as. I am doing the same with all my berry seeds. I am planting them in soil and see what happens. So far nothing yet but I’m assuming next spring will be the time it will sprout after the winter cold temps have lifted. I’m in Australia btw

I have a pear tree in the garden I’m renting in UK, bout 25ft tall. Only caught a few becuz I just kept forgetting but some were the size of a rugby ball 🙀🙀🙀 Well I kept two indoors for ages and fridged to allow maximum juicening and sweetening. I do the same with shop bought ones and it makes a massive difference. I literally ate 5 shop bought ones an hour ago and have since projectiled out my ass for ten minutes 🤣🤣 great laxative! So the homegrown ones were pretty gritty tho, tasted okish
