It's been 77 days since my last update and the pear tree saplings are now nearing 3 feet tall! After a battle with some spider mites and white flies, they seem to be bouncing back strong. I'm hoping to transplant them outside within the next 45 days.

I've got some gorgeous Fuji pears, from seed. I also topped mine. They are small but the trunks are large. Extremely healthy. I'm going to plant them this spring. Thanks for the update.

Great video Rob, I didn't realize pear trees could survive the winter here in north Texas. Thanks for this series, it will be a great tool to help me and my daughters grow some pear trees.

Thanks for the update! I've been working on growing pears from seed for the past 2-3 weeks and have watched your whole series on growing the pears from seeds. At what point in the growth cycle should paring occur? Should it be done after a certain period of time (e.g. 6 months)? Or should it be done after the trees have reached a certain height?

Alex De Denko Thanks for watching! I'd recommend pruning after at least 18" tall or around 6 months. Also, once Pear Trees start to flower, usually in year 2-3, you'll want another Pear Tree variety near it to produce more quality and quantity of fruit, although it will still produce some on its own. I hope this helps and good luck with your Pear Trees!

what should I get ready for planting apple seeds from you? How to?

Pick your favorite apples and leave them in the fridge extra long - like 3 months. Then cut them open and place the seed in a wet paper towel and ziploc bag. it'll take a few week to sprout but then get them into some fresh potting soil! Good luck!

Neves Cameron They can but usually don't. I do have a Bartlett and orient pear tree to help with cross pollination in my yard.

Do the pear trees need anything specific put into the soil? I have 2 pear trees that are almost 3 months old

Stefani Magdaleno Bot specifically but I'd start thinking about a very light dose of fertilizer... I used a 1/2 dose (maybe just under) of 10-10-10 fertilizer. You may want to start with a 1/4 dose to see how they react after a week or two to ensure no leaf burn.

Do you they need to grow in pairs ? Or threes ?
@RobBackyardGardenerr

at least 2, but better to have different varieties for better cross pollination.

Thank you for all the videos that you make! They have inspired me to grow my own plants from seed, which has been and still is a lot of fun and quite the learning experience. I also managed to germinate some pear tree seeds, about five of them, but most have died mainly due to infections. I still have one right now and I've been growing it for 247 days now, located outside for about two months right now I think. I'm a bit worried however, as most of it's leaves are dropping and there are only about four left, and they don't look great (they have holes in them/ are partly dead). Would it be best to just cut the remainder off, and would it be able to grow new foliage? I'm kind of hesitant to cut off the last few leaves as I'm scared it wil not be able to grow anything back as it has then no ability to generate energy. What would you do?
