How to Grow Rosemary From Cuttings | Rooting Hardwood Rosemary Cuttings : Herb Propagation

It's time to learn how to grow hardwood rosemary cuttings and I'm going to show you the rooting process that I like to use, in potting soil. Like willow, rosemary is very easy to propagate from cuttings and will usually grow roots within a few weeks. It doesn't take much plant material to root so you can literally have a forest of these plants from just one plant in a short amount of time. So let's create our own herb garden and we'll start with rosemary!

Years ago I lived in an apartment and put a rosemary shrub in the ground, I had a cat that loved it! She would rub up against it many times a day. I think she discovered it helped keep fleas and other bugs away. I love that she smelled like it when she came in the house.

Hi Mike, why not take 4 of the potted-up rosemary cuttings and put them under a large dome out in the hoop house, so Henry can serenade them? Some 'experts' say that plants like to be talked/sung to, and Henry has a wonderful voice. It would be a great experiment to see which plants do better in the long run, the plants left inside or the hoop house ones. Since you mentioned earlier in the video that you only want/need 4 plants in total. I love your experiments! ~Margie

I finally bought my first 2 Rhoddies! I'm so excited! I have a lot of yellow and blue/purple flowers in my garden so I chose the Lemon Lights Rhododendrons. I've yet to plant them because I'm unsure where to plant them in my garden. Since I knew you were the Rhoddy man to go to I thought I'd ask you if they need part sun/shade or full shade or sun... Where do they grow and bloom the best for you? Feeding and pruning is my next question! Thanks in advance, Mike. So excited!
@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 3 жыл бұрын
That's really great! If you take care of them, they'll bloom beautifully every year. Rhododendrons do their best in about 50/50 shade/sun. A little more or less of either won't make or break them but the best time for them to get sun is in the morning, with afternoon shade. I use a slow release fertilizer that's formulated for rhododendrons. You can find it at the big box stores. They like lots of organic matter in the soil so it's a good idea to mix in some compost, leaves, etc, before planting. Have fun!

Please can u tell me what soil are u using for that cuttings... thanks again!! I’m your followers

Hi Lolita! Glad to hear you continue to learn and work at it. You can do this, I believe in you. The soil I used this time was ProMix HP. It's just a potting soil I bought at a nursery supply store and the little white things are perlite that's mixed in. You can use any medium that drains well, holds a little moisture, and is inert. If you can't find anything else, then sand will work great.

I wouldn't recommend to stick them in your garden bed. They can definitely root but it's just harder to keep the moisture right. It's easier to put them on growing trays.

glad to see some of yours start then die, that was what happened to most of mine and they still look dead after being sheltered against compost bin out of wind and watered in twice during winter which was pretty mild here, only one time threw tarp over the whole mess as wicked northwest winds. Greetings from rural Southeast Asia... I was lucky to get my hands on a rosemary plant at the market a few days ago - a bit leggy, but lots of branches. I followed your video here, but now I'm a bit lost: I live in an area that you probably classify as zone 11b or 12. So my question: Put my cuttings outside or under grow lights (I have the red and blue mix, I have 2 LED bulbs with 6500K/820lm, and I have 2 LED strips 380-800nm, 4 setting from 25% to 100%). Lost for choice, please help!
