They needed fertilizer or better yet, amendments throughout their life. They also should’ve been repotted a lot less times. So basically put in the 5 gallon pot when they were young. Also, a very important thing they needed was a fan in that grow tent. And another thing that you also figured out was the light was on too powerful.

Curious if you did a follow up video in Spring to show how these turned out? I took some cuttings as I pruned back a Hydrangea at church today that was our previous Pastor's mother's. I have 8 that I will try. I did a couple years ago that were rooted and sent back up to Alaska, but didn't survive. I'm in The Columbia River Gorge in WA.

At the moment I am doing an experiment with leaf cuttings from fuchsias, putting the leaf petiole in water for a few hours, then into rooting powder and sticking in a sandy compost mix, each leaf is put in at an angle then misted regularly, after a few weeks there was no wilting of the leaves and no yellowing and after about 60 days 2 of the leaves have small shoots on them, so it does work this way, all the best from kieron in the uk

Can you melt holes on the bottom of the bottle for ventilation? You could even use popsicle sticks with a split in the middle and the slide the cover over the split part of the popsicle stick. Just an idea.

Hi, I need some advice. I was finally able to propagate some arborvitaes this year. I transplanted them to individual 6" pots, and put them in my yard in a partially-shaded area. As far as I can see, they are doing well, but there has been no new growth. But now what? Do I leave them outdoors for the winter? If so, should I cover them? Or should move them indoors to my garage on a shelf next to a window? Thanks!

Great video Mike I love the English Laurel. I have a whole bunch in one gallon pots. I'm thinking about up potting them to a 3 or 5 gallon pot. How do you feel about up potting plants in the winter time especially evergreens? I've always read it's okay to plant them in the ground in the fall and winter but not sure on upsizing the pot size.

I am so grateful I found your channel today. I'm new to this, but charging forward with a ton of cuttings I made recently. Now I'm hustling to get them out of the honey/water I've had them in for the past 3 days. Moving into sand, 2 cup method, in totes. I just processed 96 cuttings into sand. Probably have another 300 - 400 to go. Getting them into sand now.

@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you for your reply. The answer is 'No'. We are in Terrace, B.C. Canada - 54°30′59″N 128°35′59″W, not far from Alaska. However, I have a well lit sunroom in the house, and a greenhouse that is always above 10ºC (50ºF) in which I overwinter tropical plants. I thought I'd take the risk, and if they don't root, I'll try some more cuttings after frost end, next year. I have grown Lavandula 'Hidcote' and 'Munstead' outdoors here for about 25 years and they are withstanding our Zone 4 winters. I just want a lot more! I really enjoy and learn from your presentations.

Your video is 5yrs old. I thank God for it. I cut the tendons in my same pinky. At the base. Your thoughts of what am i going to do... its time to start cleaning out summer garden and get fall started. I was so mad at myself. How do you get clumsy after 40? Then i was freaking out. This video had me laughing at myself. Thank you!!!!!
@MikeKincaid796 күн бұрын
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. It's a tough injury to get over mentally. I was exactly 40 when I did this to myself so I get it. We never stop learning, do we? You have 2 options. Either get on with life and forget about it, but have to deal with a pinky that doesn't work, or have surgery. I hate to tell you this but pinky fingers are notoriously difficult for surgeons to work on and I have a feeling you'll be fighting scar tissue and even bigger incisions if you do surgery. That was my story anyway. Sounds like you cut your finger much lower though so you may have no other choice but to have surgery. I can't make those decisions for you as I'm not a doctor and I'm not you but I would recommend finding a good orthopaedic hand surgeon that you trust and will communicate well with you and get their opinion. In the end, my opinion doesn't matter. I will say that there will be a day in the future, whether it's 3 months from now or a year from now, that you'll come to accept your new plight and mentally relax about it. Life will go on and you will be able to get back in the garden again. unfortunately, you'll have to go through all the frustration and mental anguish that this brings. Good luck and keep your head up. And during your down time, go watch the documentary "The Dawn Wall". You'll know why about halfway through. You've got this.

Mike, have you found a big difference leaving the lid on (in this video) versus leaving it off (the earlier 8m video)? thanks from Australia
@MikeKincaid797 күн бұрын
It really depends on several factors, such as how far into the summer you are and how hardened off the wood is. Also, how hot or cool the air temp has been. It's kind of a catch 22 because in the hotter part of summer, you want the bottle to vent the heat. But the earlier in the summer you take the cutting, the softer it is and less able to withstand moisture loss from its leaves. That's why I recommend never letting the sun hit the bottle and leaving the cap on during the early and mid summer cuttings. Later in the year, as things cool down and wood hardens, you can get away with leaving the lid off and can even have it in more light. So it's really hard to answer your question definitively because of all the variables. My best recommendation for Australia is to take the rose cuttings in mid summer after the wood has begun to firm a little, leave the lid on, and place the whole contraption on the south side of a building where it will get plenty of overhead sky light but absolutely no direct sun. Enjoy your summer, good luck, and have fun!

New Subscriber….. I have never just put cutting in dirt. I have always put them in water, let them root and then plant them. Is it because you used the rooting hormone? I live in South Florida where we have a lot of hot and humidity. If I did the same thing you did with the cups would it work or would I have rot on the end of the stem? A lot of great information. Thanks ❤
@MikeKincaid797 күн бұрын
Depends on a lot of factors but the main things you want to pay attention to is that you should use an inert propagation medium that drains well and holds a little moisture. Sand is a perfect material if you don't have anything else. The only other thing you can do is spray the cuttings and top of your rooting medium with a little bit of antifungal spray like daconil.
