We plant eagle seed EW every year. Your spot on with the 19-19-19 at 30 days but then we put another application down at 90 days or just before bow season.

Very nice. Yeah that works to definitely a extra boost. Sometimes I do that as well if needed. I should of mentioned that but didn’t want to make it to complicated lol

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors and it’s hard to apply when it’s already 5’ tall. We made a platform for the tractor forks to lift up my buddy up above the EW to cover the rows. Probably not the smartest thing but it works well.

Great information on Egyptian Wheat, thank you! Have used it for 2 years now. First year it got off to a slow start, but had good results by hunting season. Both years I had 8 to 10 feet of growth, very happy!

Perfect! Glad to hear that. It can be some amazing stuff 🦌🦌💯

Good stuff! How big is the food plot that you are showing and is that the one you have shown for years with it being divided by egyptian wheat.

Greg happy new year. Thanks. Yea it’s the same field it’s roughly 3 acres. I sometimes change the design of it from year to year just to experiment with different ideas. 5 years and and counting planting it in same Field.

Have to try it..while switch grass is growing..good video.

For sure it’s a quick screen. Can also be used next to switch like you said until the switch takes off in a couple years

Just curious about your firminator and how you like it and if you can plant corn with it too

I plant EW every year. I take all my wood ashes and spread on my narrow strips after season. Wood ashes from my wood burning stove and when I burn slabs from my mill. I usually plant EW first good rain in August and spread chicken manure from my farm then. I stay away from synthetic fertilizer because it damages the soil. To each his own. GOOD VIDEO and thanks for info.

If you have access to that great. Definitely works good. 🤙👌

I'm planting EW and Switch. I am spraying princep and seeding some switch tomorrow. is there any reason i shouldnt hit the areas I plan on planting with EW as well? Thanks.

Do you think Egyptian wheat holds up better than sorghum? Had good luck with both not sure which I liked better
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Both are good but some varieties deer will eat of sorghum ans you don’t want that.

Can you plant ew yr after yr. Thank you
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Just do a soil sample each year to know what to add or not add. Will Be fine

I have no way to disc but I do have a lawn roller and a makeshift drag made out of chainlink fence. Anyway I could still plant EW?

Cultivate rows to broadcasted Egypt wheat both thins the wheat and allows sunlight reach the ground. Also allows rain to reach the root system.

Is there a specific reason you’re taking the time to plant an annual vs something more permanent? Especially if it’s going in the same spot every year?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
It can go in the same spot each year. No issues. Soil sample It and your good. I plant annual screens on leased properties as mentioned. If someone is only leasing a property for one year doesn’t make sense to plant a permanent screen. Annuals also allow you to change things up the following year. I don’t really lean toward either one it’s just property dependent really. Hope that helps

How do you prevent the deer from bedding in it and smashing it down?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Travis I’ve never had deer bed in it. Keeping it 10 ft wide and with a proper seeding rate there won’t be any room to bed in it. Not saying it won’t happen just never seen it. Also yes sometimes they will walk through it if it’s a thin stand. Hope that helps
@joshuathompson890 Жыл бұрын
@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors I had a great stand of EW this year. 15 foot wide and some reached 13 feet tall. It was thick and deer beds in several places throughout knocking it down

Can you plant this in the same spot year after year given doing a soil sample and adding correct nutrients or should you move the screen over each year because of how much nutrients it pulls out of the soil?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
You sure can. I’ve planted in same spot for years never had issues. But I also soil sample It each year and amend as needed. I also turn the EW back in the soil so it can decompose as well.
@brandonmangrum5824 Жыл бұрын
@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors alright cool thanks, appreciate the feedback, I’ve been planting it in the same spot for the past 6 years, some years have been better than others, but the one thing you mentioned I haven’t tried yet is adding 100lbs per acre of the 19-19-19 because as you mentioned I am one of those who would add the urea. I’ve also been contemplating planting something else more permanent like a maiden grass silver grass or miscanthes but not sure how smart that would be to do or a switch grass cave big rock, or if I would be better off just planting the EW?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@brandonmangrum5824 if you own the land and know 100 percent that’s where you want the screen then I would plant something permanent such as switch. You could plant the switch and then continue planting the EW in a smaller section until the switch gets going. It’s going to be about 2 years until the switch gets tall enough
@brandonmangrum5824 Жыл бұрын
