Great video Dave! Do you try to orient the shape of the food plot longways east to west so the sun tracks along the length and it gets more sunlight?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors2 күн бұрын
If possible. sometimes you can’t do it with the shape property etc. Sometimes you just have to cut more trees on the southern side of the plot to allow more sun

If they are eating bark or pine needles, the quality of habitat is lacking or too many deer for food available.

You show an area cut in the late fall or winter when everything is dormant then switch to same area during the growing season. Curious to see same area in winter when nothing is growing. How do the deer relate?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors10 күн бұрын
@@joshuathompson890 I’ve shown it on my Own property several times in videos. If you cut an area in the winter by the time fall/winter hit you’ll have regrowth. The following year will be even better and so on. Problem is most people cut 2 trees and think they did good. You have to open up the canopy!

@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors13 күн бұрын
I mix it up all the time. Sometime annual clovers or buckwheat. Sometimes even sunflowers. Just depends what mood I’m in haha. I like to add the organic matter into the soils every other year or so. Sunflowers help a lot with that. I’ll even plant brassicas some years in the fall or even a wheat/rye mix.

When everything is to dry and hot think this will work cheap easy and no till
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors13 күн бұрын
Well if it’s dry nothing is going to grow. Buckwheat loves heat but still needs moisture. If you plant it ahead of a dry spell and it gets established then yeah it will be fine. It retains a lot of moisture

I had same happen with a nice buck this year. Luckily after a couple days I decided to get back after it. Almost shot a couple other different bucks and just couldnt as I relived that other buck. He ended up showing back up and gave me some hope. I held out and held out. I watched the cameras and followed a weather event come through and made it happen 3 weeks after the bad shot. It was such a relief. After looking at my log, I haven’t killed a doe since 2010. Mainly because I simply don’t enjoy it. But I need to get back to harvesting them. I had an uptick this year that needs to be addressed.

Thank GOD you made this video, and I found it! I just disced my field and never use pesticide. EVERY other video nonchalantly says "So then we sprayed with this, that, and the other, doesn't hurt the clover, etc." Ok, SURE buddy. No way that isn't getting into the soil, wildlife, GROUNDWATER!!! I have a well and a pond at lower elevation than the field. If I sprayed my fish would get the runoff too. SUBSCRIBED!
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors20 күн бұрын
Appreciate it thanks. I do not like using chemicals. With that said sometimes it is needed to have success. Although spraying food plots that’s only a small percentage ingested into wildlife compared to major crops fields that amount they use is insane. Either way I’ll still try to always get away with not using any when I can.
