To anyone considering this, that "Hand pump" he got from a homebrew supply store is meant as a gravity siphon. You don't have to hand pump constantly if your origin vessel is at a higher elevation than the destination vessel. Pump it once, get the siphon going and you can pretty much walk away.

i dont know why it took so long to click in my brain how cool all this is. The possibilities of algae cultivation are spinning in my head right now when I think about how they could be combined with urban development and genetic engineering. Then you mentioned the use of biogas effluent as nutrient source. I've already been advocating biogas digestors and fantasizing about investing in my own, but to now understand yet another way where this technology can synergize with other sustainable systems literally left me breathless. im not being hyperbolic here, I genuinely stopped breathing for a minute because of how exciting it all is.

This was great. Keep up the great work. Anything that helps the world stop thinking that they need to buy processed foods and/or overly expensive natural and organic foods that we can just make ourselves is a HUGE gift. It's just so fascinating to me that some of the most potent superfoods are some of the easiest to grow and produce ourselves, EG, spiro, chlorella, fermented foods and drinks, etc... "downsizing," "minimal living" and basically just being happy with what I call "radical basics" is truly a joy, and more and more people are realizing this! What joy!

Two questions: 1) Simplifying the growing media to Water, Baking Soda, MaxiGro and Sea Minerals - have you calculated the makeup of the non-water components per mass of wet harvest (or maybe dry harvest)? In other words, if one were to re-use the water after harvesting X lbs of wet spirulina as strained through a 30 micron mesh, what would be the quantities of baking soda, maxigro and sea minerals one would top off that solution with to continue the next generation? 2) Where did you source the 30 micron mesh... the internet does not want me to find your source.

You mentioned a biodigester as a nutrient source. Is there a risk of contamination? Do you have to use specific feed stock for the biodigester? Specifically, a biodigester is commonly used for sewerage treatment and I would guess that makes the digestate unsafe for use in a spirulina farm.
@ranamcneil74 Жыл бұрын
Yes interesting comment. The heat inside the bio bag is over 70° and adding good bacteria would make the digester brake down the poo, but enough to kill pathogens?. I don't know.

In facet, when I added the baking soda (1 cup per 5 gallons) it lowered my PH. @remibarbet95223 жыл бұрын
spirulina will rise up the Ph constantly over time by eating the CO2 in the pool. if you dont have time or you're concerned about Ph choc ou can add somme NaCO3 at the beggining. to me NaHCo3 is enough as you said, to rise PH to 8,5, if he doesn't, maybe it's because your water is realy full of limestone (sorry for my english hope it helped you)
