Amazing!! Thank you! I will try your method, and another method that I also just learned using the skin of many seeds straight to the soil, no refrigeration. I'm curious to see which one works better. I also only use semi-hydroponics (no soil) so I will start another trial set with lava and sphagnum moss. I like your method, it make sense.

thank you for the lovely helpful video! Two questions: can I use sand from the seashore? And, can I use seeds from strawberries that are beginning to rot?
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your appreciation! You can use strawberries that are beginning to rot. Don't use sand from the seashore - 1) It is illegal to remove it from the beach here in the UK 2) It will have a high salt content which will stop germination. Keep safe.
@NashvilleMonkey10004 жыл бұрын
If the seeds are from a fresh strawberry they will germinate without putting in the fridge, either because they were shipped refrigerated already or their new seed shell hasn't completely solidified yet or if you use a blender to separate the seeds, that nicks them sufficiently. We put our seedlings into the garden a few weeks ago and we hope they grow enough roots in time for winter~ The other day with a spare set of plants, some of them got cooked in the sun, so watch for too much heat and too much direct sunlight especially with tiny strawberry seedlings.

Do you mind elaborating a bit about what it means to "nick" the seeds, and why is this necessary? This video recommends placing seeds removed from fresh strawberries into sand -- is this meant to achieve the effect of nicking seeds? Am I correct in thinking that your process for germinating strawberry seeds is to blend fresh strawberries and manually remove the seeds to plant directly?

Hi there what kind of sand do you use for the cold stratification? What time of year is best for starting this process, I'm reading different and conflicting things online and am a bit confused
@LearnHow22 ай бұрын
I used kiln dried sand as it was very fine grained - be careful not to use any containing salt (eg from a beach!). I would start late winter so the seedlings are ready to pot up in Spring then have a full summer to grow and get established. Best Wishes and good luck with your growing.

Water when the soil starts to look dry. It is best to start the seeds in spring then it gives them the whole summer to grow. I would transplant to soil if you are going to keep them a while before planting out.

Damp (but clean😆) toilet paper works. Don't use paper towels because they don't fall apart; the little roots will get stuck in the fibers. I've also tried starting small seeds in agar-agar and that *almost* works. (it dries out even when covered and shrinks)
