@v87garden Жыл бұрын
@@mussamsoma4415Many reason that seeds did not germinate well. first you need to check seed expiration date, second soil mixture for seedling, third sowing too deep also make the seed cannot germinate

@@mussamsoma4415 You could look for corn in a supermarket, the kind that is yellow and fresh. Of those used to make tortillas. That if or if it germinates. also check that the corn is not too old or has holes in it.

Expensive startup if you rent and don’t have much grass or land. But should work out in the long run Re using soil in containers. Think I have over 150 plants in containers this year. Started gardening a year ago and grew up with it so it feels good
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Жыл бұрын
@@cybertones942 Yeah I exclusively grow in containers too. It makes it a lot easier to exchange the soil to prevent disease, its a lot more water/feed efficient (which saves a lot of labor), and you can move them around to maximize your space. I'm slowly converting to hydroponics though. I'm using old green vegetation seeped in 5 gallon buckets to make the liquid feed. I tried worm tea but its not strong enough for hydroponics. The dirt from the worms however is awesome as a seed starting medium though as it is extremely clean. No mold or other junk even if you overwater.

Add a "Bean" and a "melon" type plant too. I personally mix cuccumbers and pintos with small zucc's (i harvest small) and peas. The corn makes the trellis for the beans and climbing melons. If you dont mind the ground cover, you can do pumpkins/watermelons too but i find those sprawl to much for buckets. These 3 together "feed" each other to some degree, its known as the "3 sisters". :D Try totes next.

I just started gardening last year. For all vegetation, I just thought all ya had to do was put a seed in ground in sunny location, give it water, and watch it grow! I was living in fantasy land.
@darthjarjar5309 Жыл бұрын
Well, that’s pretty much the the basics of gardening. - toss a seed(s), water it moderately, give it sun (make sure your plant if for your climate) and just take care of it, like you would with a child. Exercise common sense, like don’t overwater or dry it out, check for pests, etc. The fertilizer are really unnecessary additives. You really think that thousands of years ago when these crops were being grown in mass, you think they had commercial fertilizers? No. In fact, many people still grow their corn fields without fertilizer and all the fancy additives.

@@nbeizaie Yeah, I can't stand genetic changes that didn't come about from radiation or exposure to chemical mutagens. Those methods are so much more natural and healthy than direct genomic modifications! Dolt.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Жыл бұрын
@@stevenschnepp576 There is nothing wrong with GMO as a process. It's as natural as cross pollination, they just cut off all the bad/superfluous offspring and time it would take and go direct to the phenotype they want. The reason you don't want GMO corn is because it is almost always modified for the purposes of heavy starch for making things like corn flour. That said, the easy solution is to just plant kernels of uncooked corn you already like to eat like what you get from the grocery store. It just involves dehydrating the kernels and snapping them off. If you like popcorn, you can also grow the popcorn kernels.
