This was a wonderful find. Thanks for this time with Ron. I think I bought some of his chrysanthemums many years ago. More time with gardeners & plantsmen like him please.

Absolutely wonderful video. Thank you. As a keen gardener who emigrated from the UK 14 years ago, this is fantastic information. Learning and adapting to Aussie conditions every year. Beats a cold greenhouse in England and sowing my sweet pea seeds in toilet roll tubes 😂 More videos with the priceless knowledge from Ron would be amazing.

Thank you so much Melissa & Ron. I love sweet peas, my Pop used to grow mountains of them. I haven't grown them for a few years but am going to again this year & am going to follow every one of these tips especially as I'm in High Wycombe so conditions will be exactly the same.

Love seeing the 'knowledge' being passed on and shared. Thanks Ron, I'm going to run out in the morning and nip mine out and feed them up, only mistake was planting at the back of a bed with hydrangeas and they're acid lovers I think, so next year I'll plant differently. Many thanks and hope to catch you both at one of the shows later in the year.

Well I hit a winner when I came searching for Sweet Pea advice. What a great team you make, and such a delightful gentleman. You can't beat decades of knowledge! I'm curious if the planting time would be the same in Melbourne. Is the whole planting by St. Patricks day and bit of an old wives tale?
@melcarling6 жыл бұрын
Lindyjanemac Mac I think you should be fine! Basically you want them in before the weather turns cold so the very start of autumn weather I think

Very insightful. I grew my very first sweet pea this year. Had no idea what I was doing and was surprised when they started to grow up when spring almost hit. I had a heap of flowers grow and it look stunning. But now the plant is going brown and have have noticed little pods growing on there. I'm not sure what to do now. Maybe start fresh again in April.
@melcarling6 жыл бұрын
Kelly Fitness once the pods are really dry, collect the seed and plant them next year! They only grow once a year. Glad you had success this year!
@kellywilliams37356 жыл бұрын
@@melcarling thanks Melissa. I've just noticed that more flowers and pods are growing so I'm taking some of the flowers to put inside in a small glass and hooefully more flowers will come up. However some new seedlings have suddenly appeared too. So half of the plants are brown, the tops are green with flowers and pods on them (some pods are brown) but new plant is shooting from the soil. What do you suggest I do? Leave it or start fresh after collecting seeds once brown?
@melcarling6 жыл бұрын
Kelly Williams just leave them. Stop picking the flowers. Let them all set to seed. Don’t be too fussy or worry about the shoots at the bottom
