I just checked it out (tool set) and it says that it's unavailable. Maybe because I'm in Michigan and the governor deems gardening unnecessary 😦 It shows as available in Canada so I'm curious if anyone else in the US can view it as available?

@@731Sandi Oh man, that's great to hear. When I learned that they actually restricted seed selling to individuals, I was like "oh man.....this isn't going to end well". Oh no, that's terrible! With watering, I would say from seed stage to either garden or large container, I would have watered the plants 3 times. Once to germinate, one again in 4" pots, and then again when planted in the raised bed or 5 gallon pot. That's it. 3 times.

Zucc. roots get very think and rope like. If you choose to do them in containers, make sure it is a deep, deep pot. We planted a separate patch 3 ft. from main garden...and they crept into the main garden and hurt our bush(174) green beans. Zuccs are like watermelon....they spread....A LOT.

The list goes on and on. Another thing I love to grow is giant pumpkins. I grew one once that it took 4 of us to put into the back of a pickup truck. We rolled it onto a tarp and lifted it one guy on each corner. It weighed 96 pounds. 😁 It was on display at the courthouse for a fall festival during harvest days. Kind of cool it was by accident that I raised it. My 3 year old nephew got into the seeds and did some planting while no one was looking. I didn't remember planting pumpkins in that particular spot but I let the plants grow up and after a while I figured it out. I caught the little guy doing it again with peas. He'd sneak in my shed and grab seeds then he'd go plant them like he seen me do so many times before. When I put 2 and 2 together the light came on and I just laughed. I knew exactly how those pumpkin seeds got planted. I was sure glad and happy he did that. He's gonna be a good gardener like his uncle one day in the near future.

Hello, a bountiful thank you for your informative and well-organised channel. I'm so happy to be planting zucchini/courgettes as the ones from the local market get badly pocked and scarred from the bulk transport and handling! My plants have put out about 6 healthy leaves so far after growing for 25 days in yoghurt pots (dark green variety) though the leaves are not as big (about 2 inches span) as I've seen in videos. The stem has become a bit leggy and curved but I'm not too worried about that as I know I can bury that part to keep it sturdy when I plant them out. The thing is , should I plant them out now or can I afford to wait a week or so longer before I transplant to the full-size container? There appear to 4-5 other leaf buds on the plants too.

@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Arleen, if you're "growing Zucchini's in containers", you're not going to be putting it in the ground. If growing in the ground, steps 1 and 2 never happen, you plant either the plug or the starter plant right into the ground. This happens in the spring...you want to give Zucchinis at least 100-120 days to grow and produce. Best of luck!

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I was Leary of planting too many close together once I saw how big they get and how the stems and leaves bush out. I had lost three previous zucchini plants to vine borers, blight, and powdery mildew so I thought maybe I had too many n the container and there wasn't enough airflow. Would I need to build a large cage for the container? Do I need to stake or tomato cage the plants?

Since I have reckless neighbors who don't understand good gardening hygiene, I have had to deal with Squash Vine Borers for many years. Despite your admonition to get them planted early, I waited this year until the adult moths died out and planting in July. In the meantime, zucchini are cheap at the store this time of year, so no real loss. Regarding early planting, it's often easy enough to get two crops in a season.

I grew a zucchini plant from seed last year. I planted the seeds about a month too late. Otherwise, I think I would have gotten moe than one squash and possibly the fruit would have been bigger. Do you have a series on growing veggies indoors from seed to harvest?
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Donna, yeah, the zukes grow fast for sure, but they totally benefit from that head start just like tomatoes and peppers. I don't grow any of the big stuff indoors all the way to harvest... Just herbs and things like that. Too many inputs to take the big guys right to harvest with artificial light.

Zukes (courgettes) are actually one of the first to become ready for harvest out of all the summer-type crops. Usually within 3 months of putting that seed to soil. Which is quick, considering it takes about a month to get to a big enough starter plant to put into the garden or container!

@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dayle, for container plants, I try to look at them once a week and see their state. If it rains then I probably skip a watering or two. The mulch really helps to make watering much less frequent. Probably twice a month watering unless its extremely hot out.
