Loved having my ideas about service and practice challenged! Appreciate the short segments - easy to grasp and take into the day.

Guys, I ain’t gonna lie, I think suffering is inherent in the practice of spiritual exploration. With the possibility of hell, I think it’s quite valid to feel afraid that you might go there. That fear is suffering. Some say they don’t believe in hell or they know it doesn’t exist. I think this is unwise since none of us truly know the truth of its existence. Maybe it doesn’t exist. Whatever the case is, I personally believe that living life in a way that doesn’t acknowledge this reality simply for the blissful ignorance it brings is quite dangerous because it might be real.

Eh, I mean, I get the value of acceptance and the idea that happiness is our natural state but I think a more balanced and reasonable perspective and concept is non attachment. For example, if you get some horrible fatal disease your not gonna just throw your hands up in the air and say I fully accept this disease as my experience and I guess I'm going to die now. You're going to try everything imaginable to heal and if you're unable to do so then you're going to accept the situation and not be attached to the idea of healing or even continuing to live. The same can be said with the first rule. You CANNOT tell me that living a life of service will not make you a happier or more fulfilled person however, if you're unable to do so then you just accept the fact that you cannot do so and you're not attached to the idea that living a life of service is necessary for happiness because you understand that your natural state is one of Divine Bliss. The same thing goes for Spiritual practices.

I understand you but you’re misunderstanding acceptance in this context. Throwing your hands up in the air when you get a fatal disease is called being a Jehovah witness. This is obviously not what I’m speaking of here. In this approach acceptance accepts all things. It is the ultimate acceptance. Which means, if you feel the urge to stop an injustice in the street, and you resist that, then you are continuing to resist life. This acceptance that I speak of is a very active acceptance. It promotes solving problems and acting against illness or wrong doing. And again, I never said acts of service won’t make you happy. I said, and I quote “finding joy in it is fine, just don’t let it be the source of your fulfilment”. Non attachment is a concession, it’s a half way stage for one who has not fully recognised the full enchilada. It’s okay to be attached. It’s necessary to take care of the body. Our car. Our children. These are to some degree attachments. I doubt the Buddha if he seen one of his disciples getting attacked would sit there “unattached” and just “accept” what was happening. This is obviously not what I’m saying in this video. The problem lies in when we are dependent upon things for happiness. Other than that, the ultimate acceptance accepts even the lack of acceptance. Have a beautiful day my friend.

I wonder who he is referring to as far as teachers, if he is making a reference to any particular teacher, master, speaker, whomever?

@@sajafendel @ 3:47 exactly. It was your #4 on the list, Outside sources. I was wondering if you were referring to anyone in particular or just the lot, sum of all of them, no matter how good their intentions are? Just as I stated above: Teacher, Guru, Philosopher, etc.? And thank you for responding. ~D

@@Deanwrdno one in particular, just generally speaking. Traditions typically are great for storing the knowledge. Usually aren’t great for transmitting it. Otherwise we’d see a great surge in classic traditions (Buddhism) for example that are implementing this understanding with the world to large scale. But we don’t. We see people like Elkhart tole. Normal people who own their own direct experience and share from direct experience.
