Great tutorial! I wish you would have included the bottom of the gusset and how you tapered the two seams into the one original down around her knee. That finishing detail would have been helpful because I would have the hardest part with that, getting it to lay flat.

Yesss!! I really wish I had. For some reason that part of the "operation" wasn't in this file. Ug. But! I'm glad you brought this up, because I should've taken time to say, there is no magic bullet technique that I have found to taper these back in. It takes a lot of coaxing & schmoozing Every. Single. Time. Sometimes, I even need to hand baste the taper before I machine sew it in. Hey, wait! You just wanted to see footage of me banging on the table and struggling, right!?? Lol j/k ;)

@@BridalSewing HAha. No, I was actually hoping you had a magic trick to make it easy.!So do you bring the french seams all the way down to the center seam?

Yes, I do. Although, they get a little extra tiny & kinda imperfect toward the end. But they are hidden, so as long as they are strong, won't fray, & press out beautifully, I try not to lose any sleep over it. ;)

I love your technique! I have a client with a semi formal lace over satin dress. Least can be scary. But not any more for me! After seeing how you do it I know it can be done in a very simple way, not very easy but not complicated. Thanks so much!

Something about the method/structure in which you explain things is just perfect for ADHD listeners in my opinion (I have ADHD). I appreciate it immensely 😊 And omg the prediction of people thinking "Okay i learned what that is and I'm gonna hop off now and try it" was on-point and hilarious lol!! 😂

I’m having to add my gusset at the back on the sides of the zipper. It’s a huge ball gown but the lace appliqués will cover the gusset pretty well. She needs 5 extra inches in the waist and 2 extra inches in the bust. Any tips? I figured I’d go old school and make it an isosceles triangle shaped piece of fabric to sew in next to the zipper sides. But I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask how you’d approach this 😇 Since you always have the most amazing tips and tricks!

Where did you get the gelmor French lace from ? I looked it up and they are not a supplier. How did you match the lace so well. I do bridal Alterations and this has always been a dilemma for me is matching fabric.

Nice job!! I've noticed more and more they are not doing the overlap apps on gowns. But leaving that raw seam pressed open. Sometimes its sewn inseam sometimes its overlay. Brides are getting economical about it I think because its under their arm and not so noticeable 😊😊😊

Yes it does lay lighter, is cheaper, and actually quite realistic, (we don't seem to mind seams anywhere else?) & yes, I didn't get into fitting or pressing, but this style is much easier to go back at any time and perfect the fit. It is also, as you said pressed open, (usually full 5/8ths seam allowance on side seams) or pressed to one side, (often 3/8ths or 1/4" seams running down the backsides.) Great comment! Thank you!! 🤗

I understood almost all of it but I couldn't figure out what u meant by passes ive never heard that before... I'm want to make a prom dress for myself using a wedding dress but the dress I'm using (which if from my friends family) which is a few sizes to small I'm about to do advance apperal in highschool in my second semester I just finished apperal 2 this semester so I have an idea of what to do already but since I'm in highschool I've never upsize anything formal let alone a wedding dress Soo I was look for some tutorial yours is so far the best one I've found and I just couldn't understand what u meant by passes... Also before post this comment I want to ask one more thing is there any other way to upsize a wedding dress other than what u said in this video

Thanks for watching. Can you give me the time stamp of when i said passes, so that I can get the context? A corset back is a good way to upsize, but that doesn't help with hips.

So this video is awesome! My wedding dress arrived today and it’s too small. It’s final sale and I can’t return or exchange it. I can’t afford to get a new dress I’m unsure if I’m able to have it altered to be taken out. Could you let me know if my dress can be taken out? It’s the allure bridal 9250. If so could I patronize you to have my dress fixed? Also it doesn’t zip up for me.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out! I think the best thing is to meet some of your local seamstresses and see if *they* can let it out. They probably can! :) & then you'll have local fittings and a lifetime seamstress of your very own. ❤ (This is a teaching channel. I don't take sewing clientele from this channel.)

Do you have any ideas for eliminating the horizontal wrinkles across the front of a mermaid gown? I know that the indentation of the body’s, um, crotch area and the indentations where the legs attach are what is causing it, but I don’t know what to do about it.

Thanks for the great tips, work is amazing. I used to alter wedding dresses and every time i have to move 5 sizes up or down I have never understood the bride, why on earth you have to by a dress that 5 sizes big or small? Why can't you order one tailor made or select your size at least... I can not understand how the bride can choose the dress worn over 10 times and the bodice looks way way darker (dirtier) than the skirt due to numerous dry cleans and alterations? anybody can explain to me... as far as I remember our grandmothers used to say that traditionally bride should wear everything new and not take anything used or worn into her new life in order to be happy... I think many of us will feel uncomfortable wearing somebody's clothes, I mean that strange feeling inside when you try on somebody's clothes or shoes, you feel you want to take it off quickly... so how would someone want to drag other peoples energies into their new lives and then we can see enormous number of divorces... and yet... everything starts with the wedding dress

Because that is not any of our concern as seamstresses/tailors - or even shop owners. We are not to judge any client’s budget or motive or taste or sanity - unless they ask us to... At the end it’s all about pleasing our client and finding worth in our craft. I can give you many examples similar to this video where a client needs a size 10 made into a size 6 and vise versa. Most times, our brides purchase these gowns based on their circumstances. Yes, sample gowns that are dirty and have stains. So what. Woolite or dry cleaning will take care of it. They just want to have a beautiful gown for their wedding and it’s always a privilege to provide this service for them.
