Best video on this yet... and that's what I do, too... some guy said they take only 6ml??? Mine to get a decent crop size took 30+ Glad to see yours took 50+. I also add probiotics and msm (sulfur) to mine (a pinch) so that any digestive issues are sorted out.. and I also boil eggs and blend eggs and shells together and add for calcium. (Free range only).

milk is bad for them. i think they are lactose intolerant
@ClickRec10 жыл бұрын
Pigeons should never have milk, although I've heard powdered milk will work in an emergency, such as an abandoned baby that needs immediate nourishment.

It doesn't mimic the way they naturally feed from their parents, but it works. Another way that takes longer is using the tip of a glove or cling wrap over either a syringe or jar filled with their food with a slit cut through it, they will poke their beak through the slit instinctively and begin to feed. The only issue I could see with this method is if someone does it wrong and they aspirate the food, but if you do it properly, this way definitely seems to save time, haha.

Great video, tried the bag with the hole in and the pigeon didn't take to it at all! So I tried the seringe. How much do I give him and how many times a day? I've started off with small amounts today- approx 3ml twice a day. Chick crumb mixed with warm water. Someone said 15ml twice a day is that too much? Do I push the seringe further down the throat or can he have it in his beak and swallow him self? I've been putting it just at the top of the throat. Please reply ASAP I'm trying my best to keep him alive

Hi Andreas, how often and when would I feed a baby pigeon aged approx., 10 days? Still has it's "pin" feathers or down? My daughter found it in the street and the local rescue is just going to kill it. I want to give it a chance.
@ClickRec10 жыл бұрын
This is great. How thick should the mix be? Like mustard? Thinner?
@xD3p3ch3L0v3rx9 жыл бұрын
John Tendy ... Andreas is right.. lil more watery because the pelleted food will soak up all excess water in their system so they can dehydrate... so erring on the a little more watery side is good judgement...

I have a question. I have a standard rescue pigeon, who is blind with a splayed leg. She's a pet and likes to hang out on my lap and get cuddles and kisses but she does not fly. I've trained her to locate her food and water bowl in her cage but she only eats small parakeet bird seed. She throws out large pieces, needless to say she seems very underweight, her breast bone protrudes past her breast muscle. Do you have any recommendations? I want her to gain weight, but not be miserably hyperactive with no way to expend excess energy since she can't see or fly.
@pigeonlovers25399 жыл бұрын
Castaway its hard to raise blind pigeons you should try giving your pigeon bread and stuff
@castaway1231009 жыл бұрын
Pigeon Lovers I changed the brand of her feed and she's gaining weight! She's also spending a good half hour or so eating each time she feeds. I think she just did not like the other brand, it's the same seed but much better quality.

How old are your pigeons I am getting a 2 month old pigeon and need to now how to feed it
@jetz100018 жыл бұрын
ive rescued loads and loads of pigeons, im afraid this is the wrong way. Their breathing tube can get clogged and your bird will suffocate, the syringe needs a tiny tube on the end to go past the breathing tube and directly into the crop. but an altogether easier way is getting a bottle such as an old spice jar, fill with hand rearing feed such as tropican or kaytee exact, put into bottle, place some cling film over the open end and cut a small slit, then proceed to feed as a baby, the pigeon puts its beak in the slit and it mimics the parent feeding ways.

How old are these doves? They look old enough to pick all the feed at themself???
@iammsmorales8 жыл бұрын
Eef Bols Hi there! Not sure how old the poster's pigeons are, but a loose rule is that if the birds still have downy feathers on them (even if it's only at the tips of their adult feathers) or of they are still squeaking out of cold, fear, hunger et.c. that their parents would still be feeding them at that age. pigeons have a very very long childhood by comparison to say chickens or ducks that are almost independent by day two. pigeons take care of their babies for several months and are devoted parents. They feed their chick's in a similar manner by inserting their beaks into the babies mouth and... essentially regurgitating a special mixture from their crop called crop milk. With out the parents available to the babies they'd probably die of starvation or weakness or heat loss. His birds are still squeaking and I think I see some downy feathers on the smaller bird, therefore the poster has to play a surrogate and feed them still. :)

@FlowingDepths8 жыл бұрын
They actually make really awesome pets, some people race certain breeds, and there are many varieties of show pigeon! look at some ornamental breeds, like english trumpeters or pouters, and it's not hard to see how someone could be intrigued by these badly represented creatures.

Please don’t syringe feed if you are not experienced, they can aspirate the food into the lungs and die. These pigeons are big enough to be eating by themselves. They should be pecking by now and they need to learn to eat seed.
