Hello 👋🏽 if it’s four out of six then I will suggest you acknowledge it was very unintentional because most times it isn’t and that you were probably unaware you should not use them 😊. Actually most times, students are not aware they are not meant to use AI for assignments because to some people, it is still a search tool. So just let them know it was very unintentional and I hope that helps and saves you the situation 😊💕

Hi amarachi, i got an academic misconduct from the university. Actually for checking the plagarism, i sent my work to my frnd and he by mistake submitted it on the turnitin repository. After getting my work i edit my work and submitted on my submission area. But its is showing more than 80% similarity. My own work is showing similarity and how can i defend against it?

Hi Amarachi, I am studying in the UK and I have an issue of academic misconduct. My school sent me an email to know why I used an AI tool. A team meeting was scheduled and I told them I used the tool to assist me with my research and studies. They now sent me a 2nd email that, they will put my name in their academic misconduct database of the University, but I have a chance to appeal. They sent me an appeal form that has the Dean, the Chair of Examination Senate and all the big authorities of the school. I don't even know how to go about the whole thing and it has kept me in a lot of distress. Kindly help me on what to do. PLEASE. Thank you

Hello Ernestina, I can imagine how you feel. But do take it kindly on yourself. This is what you will do, if you are studying in the UK, most universities in the UK have their students’ Union, and one of the responsibilities of the student executives or the staff of the students unions is to provide support for ALL students in situations like this. If you don’t know where your students Union is, search your university website for it okay? When you get across to them, explain your plight and tell them you sincerely seek support from them with your appeal against your name being logged into the academic misconduct profile of the university.

At this point, the support with your appeal is what you will be needing and you need a backup of someone/staff who is aware of your university system. It is late to appeal the misconduct situation because it seems in your teams meeting you showed a clear understanding of knowing about misconduct yet committing it which might have resulted to the verdict on the 2nd email. But the second appeal can still happen efficiently for you with the right support. I’m almost sure there should be someone from the students Union to help you 😊. Hi sister, usually for first panel, they don’t intend to persecute or prosecute the student. They just want to make sure the student has an understanding of plagiarism and academic misconduct. So I would not be so defensive if I were the student. But let them know it was truly unintended because most times students do not intend to plagiarise.

If there are any more mitigating circumstances that can be related to the reason you rushed, you can mention to them. Mitigating circumstances like you were looking for house at the same time so you were unsettled and couldn’t be calm enough for the assignment. Or was sick with evidence of pharmacy drugs or GP appointments, or emotionally or mentally unstable, if you also have evidence you can include like therapy sessions. If they see your work word for word on any site, it’s their proof of plagiarism so the best is to be sincere, apologetic but not accepting you intentionally plagiarised cause you didn’t 🌚😊 I hope this helps dear 💕. How was that possible and how to defend myself on that? (I have received supporting evidence from Grammarly Support Team)

⁠@@yanzhang1397Hello and apologies for delay, I only just saw this. Can I ask if you mean you used Grammarly to check your work similarity with other work on the internet? If Turnitin flags your work for 89% similitude and you are sure your work is not copied. Then you can download the evidence from Grammarly and present for your defence. It’s also important to discuss that with your academic advisor or a staff of the students Union for your support. Hello Jerin, can I ask if you were initially contacted regarding the misconduct? If you were contacted regarding a suspicion then they are further investigating that to be certain there was and if there is, they will contact you to discuss with you and hardly to penalise you yet.
