Hi. Getting that favorable response is not very easy nowadays. But you have to keep trying. Some things that may help improve your odds include: checking out the profs/schools that actually have current funding in your area of interest (depending on your field, I described how--> kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHOqanpuZpZ2jKc and kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJvMcq1qmrBjjtU). You can ask chatGPT to review your documents for grammar and flow of thoughts (I explained how here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHjYp4l5rdyDZ5I). October to January - sending emails to Professors ( simultaneous preparing SOP and Asking for reference letters) 3. January to June - Applying officially to Universities and visa Can you please review and suggest any changes

The number 1 is the only one that does not need to change, in my opinion. The rest do. You can be sending cold emails from now till you write your exams and after. Cold emailing does not have an exact time. The professor that will fund you might be available to reply to your email (if you're lucky) during the summer (which is May ending- July). So it's not too early to send cold emails, but it might be too late. For the 3rd point, the Fall 2023 application window opens by August/September, and the rule is "the earlier, the more chances" especially if you're looking for a fully funded offer. Waiting till January before you begin the application might be "late". I wish you all the best. Regards, AO.

Great response from @Adekunle. 1. Glad you are working towards exams. Good scores would greatly increase your chances. 2. Though good exam scores may endear you better to certain profs, since you'd be taking the exams that late in the year, I'd say you shouldn't wait for the scores before reaching out to Profs. Generally, by the time they onboard Fall2022 students in August, some funded Profs start planning for the next set of students. So, start marketing yourself with emails latest by July ending/Mid-August. 3. Know that certain schools have deadlines for Nov/Dec. There are still many that welcome applications in Jan-March. So, depending on your intended schools, make sure you apply earlier than the deadline, if possible. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Good luck.

Hi Babajide, how can you secure your visa without proof that you have the means to fund your studies? For PhD at least, you have to prove that you have enough funding for the first year, I guess!

Right. You will have to show enough funding for at least the first year; what you will need to show will be stated in your I-20. After you receive admission notification from the department or graduate collect, the graduate college or the international student office will typically do this calculation for you and ask for the financial documentation before you can receive your I-20 form.

I emailed the department and my advisor and asked for funding information, they just saying apply TA/RA roles advertised on the career webpage and yet no more TA/RA assistantships are available, and I don't know whether I would be able to get TA/RA at least for one year. If not, I don't think I could pursue this PhD.

Hi. First, congratulations on getting an admission offer. That is a huge achievement! Funding is understandably a lot more difficult for MS students. Unfortunately, accepting this offer is a personal decision that I am unable to make for you. I tried to be clear in the options available to you in this video. I'm sure it is a tough decision, and I can only send my best wishes in whatever decision you eventually make.

They didn't ask. But just in case,, we Borrowed money into my parent's account (if you do this ensure you have a believable justification for such income). Exchange rates weren't crazy back then so I needed a statement of around 4 million naira.
