Well said mate! I had trouble from the get go with an ATPL subject as I'm not a numbers person in the slightest. I let the stress build up to the point I questioned my capability to get through it - but all I really needed to do, was step back and assess the problem areas. Make a list, one by one and find a solution for each issue. By doing that I alone reduced the stress and increased my confidence! Keeping yourself in check is absolutely crucial and remembering that you control your thoughts & actions. Couldn't agree more that knowledge is power.

As an intensive care nurse, I found everything you said regarding stress and working as a team, knowing your stuff is applicable in my job. When a patient crashes, several people are involved and there needs to be effective communication, work as a team and this keeps stress levels down. I totally agree with you as well in terms of your home life and managing stress there as well, it will affect your work. I really enjoy your channel. I grew up as an Air Force brat, (Canadian), lived on several bases and around mainly fighter jets. ✈️

YOUR ANSWERS REALLY IMPORTANT at the beginning i just wanna THANK you for your videos , it answered most of my questions , however , still one question stand out and the most important one i hope you answer me I'm mar 27 year old , i did the medical check and i discover that i failed on Ishihara Color Vision Test " I GOT ONLY 2 OUT 12 PLATE " , after that i went to an optometrist and they let me do another test called " Farnsworth D-15" and eventually i got the "Medical Category 1 " certificate, however ,I did a lot of research online about the chances to get a job at any airline as a" commercial pilot " the majority of advices said that most likely i will not get a job at any airline "as commercial pilot " with a such defect "slight color blind" , also i had a pilot friend , he said "even though that i got the medical certificate more than likely the operator will not accept me because of color blind , and I already applied for school next September in Canada and i'm afraid to waste the time and money and ended up having a Commercial pilot license without a job !! 1-what is the chances to get accepted in job if i have " slight color blind" and i have passed the medical check ? 2- what's your opinion or advice for me , go a head and apply for the school or what i have to do? i might sound hesitate and that true , but being a pilot is my dream and i'm fighting to get it , but this is the worst nightmare I've ever had. PLEASE ANSWER ME , I'm looking forward to your reply thanks

Excellent video, thank you! I've been in the profession for almost 10 years now and so far it has been mostly positive. On very rare occasions there is that one pilot that you're paired up with that you just don't get along with (to put it in professional terms). Regardless of any effort to initiate conversation it doesn't go anywhere and the silence in the cockpit hangs like a wet blanket for the entire 1,2 or 3-day pairing. I personally find this stressful. Mentour Pilot have you encountered such situations and how have you dealt with it? (Just looking for a fresh new angle to approach this) Thanks!

Hey Mentour! I'm currently studying physics at university and studying for my ppl on the side. I've been dead set on becoming an airline pilot all of my life. However I have one question I hope you can answer or possibly even do a video on? Does where you live affect the suitability of a pilot for a job? Like for example will a pilot be refused a job because they live too far from an airline's base and cannot afford to live there? I live just outside of Liverpool airport in the UK (close to Manchester) and am afraid I might not be able to afford living in London and I'm concerned it may affect my career. Thank you for all your help, your videos are extremely helpful and inspirational, they have been a great help already in answering my questions!!!!!!

Hey man, i love your videos I always watch them learn from them, i am a 16 year old boy and i love planes and aviation and my one and only one dream is to accomplish my goal and become a pilot, since the day i thought of being a pilot I started watching videos practicing simulators etc.... I know about planes and its instruments + planes physics more than any 16 year old would know. What shall i do more? I was over looking to attend a pilot school but i live in lebanon and there isn't any facility for kids except a one day training called junior aviation in one of beirut wings facilities. IS THERE ANY FACILITY I CAN JOIN AND START WORKING ON MY SELF TO BECOME A PILOT? Man your awesome thanks for all the videos 🙂

maybe one more question: If one has a sensible stomach, not in the sense of flight turbulences, rather in relation to healthy alimentation. Do you always have to eat out in hotels, Restaurants or do you find time during your work schedule to cook on your own here and there ? I assume you get served the first class food/meal during the flight. Never bought a 1st class ticket. Is the food good or rather "eatable". I know it is a wired question but for some people extremely important. Best regards, Janes

I have a tendency to negative emotions, sensitivity to stress. Do you think this traits can work for a Pilot? I mean, I do think I am a pretty good cardriver because of it - I don't take any unnecessary risks when driving and I am more or less always aware and awake of potential worst case scenarios.

G'day Mentour, I have been listening to liveATC.com, and was wondering how pilots remember the instructions given to them by the air traffic controller? Things like taxiing information, squawk, contact frequencies, track etc, I try to listen carefully but forget almost instantly. So, I could imagine the stress and fear I would feel if I was in that position while contacting ATC in real life! Also, I heard last night, a pilot tell ATC that a green laser was shot into the cockpit. Have you ever had that happen to you?

Hi, Mentour. You're from Sweden, right? I am colorblind and slightly asthmatic, and I'm not sure if I could pass my Class 1 medical exam... I'm from the EU, so I'm not sure whether they use other colorblind tests here (such as the FALANT). This is my biggest fear, that I won't be able to become a pilot. Thanks for reading.

+Dan That is a good question I slightly have the famous red/green problem and that could be my biggest obstacle. Even if I don't see how it could endanger a plane since I can clearly make the difference between red and green (in 98.2% of all cases) What kind of colorblindness do you have? and is it very strong?
@DanDC1
@DanDC1 8 жыл бұрын
+Nicolas Alban I have red-green colorblindness, one of the weakest forms. It is so weak that I can read the numbers on the Ishihara plates, in brighter light usually, but dimmer helps sometimes as well. Either way, I learned it already, so that shouldn't be a problem. The problem is I have some sort of breathing issue, very minor, not life threatening in any way, but it is mostly humidity and dust induced. I still think I will be able to pass all tests. Hopefully.
@lasnico_7
@lasnico_7 8 жыл бұрын
Well good luck! I can hardly read the numbers on the Isihara plates, well I can when I concentrize and focus. Hopefully I have other qualities that might offset it. And who knows what technology can do in a couple of years. There are special glasses for this by the way!

I'm starting to think that essentially... The 747 was away prestige from flying. With mass tourism, flying lost prestige due to the lower fares airlines could offer if they had the 747. Pan Am ever telling Boeing to make this huge jet is one of, if not the biggest mistake made in Aviation History. (I still want to be a pilot, but I'm aiming for the 777 or the A-380). (A-380 I think brought the prestige back, with new possibilities, and amenities that are now offered onboard with all the new space). What do you think about this topic, Mentour?
@markkiese4404
@markkiese4404 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks to that step by pan am a lot more pilots and staff were needed (good for aspiring pilots?) and suddenly almost everyone could afford it. And prestige... well, its just to be accepted by the society, aren't we actually here just to fly? :D
@The_McRib
@The_McRib 7 жыл бұрын
If you want prestige then you could just get a business or a first class ticket. The prices of those tickets are actually slightly less than what people had to pay just to fly at all in the days before the 747. The qatar airways A380s even have a bar in first class.
