One extremely important thing I forgot to mention is once you pick your trees always remember to look up. Check around for any dead standing trees/widow makers and if there is anything you aren't sure about just pick different trees, no need to chance it. Be safe and have fun out there!

Good tips. I have a good Dutchware hammock system with the bonded tarp and I also have the Plexamid tent. Sometimes I take the Plexamid because there's less movng peices, but on those trips I do miss my hammock.

I have thought about how nice it would be to be able to be completely setup in what 5-10 minutes with a tent? I just can't bring myself to do it. Hammock is so comfortable and enjoyable for me and sleeping on a sleeping pad is not appealing at all lol

I pace between two trees asking myself (One step per word) "Can I realistically set up here?" If I can reach to wrap my strap round after the last step it's a yes 👍

I’ve never been told to have slack in ridge-line. Actually I’ve been told just the opposite; it should be on the tight side. 🤔
@HikeIntoTheSunset Жыл бұрын
You definitely want some slack in your ridgeline. Ideally, you should be able to bend it when you are laying in it. Having it too tight won't allow you to lay as diagonally as you should, and you can get shoulder squeeze and calf ridge. Straps should be around 45°. You won't be able to get the best hang every time for sure haha. I've had a few tight hangs lately when trees were too far apart and it was OK but I wasnt getting as flat as I like around my head/shoulders.

I couldn't watch this because you pronounce it wrong
@jeremyaltom1303 Жыл бұрын
It’s really annoying the way you pronounce hammock 😂 you look smarter than me so I’m sure you’re pronouncing it correctly but it’s ham-ick !!!
@HikeIntoTheSunset Жыл бұрын
Lot's of people tell me a pronounce it wrong lol. Ha-mick, ha-muck, ha-mock. Dictionary says it should be pronounced ha-muck I believe. It's funny how much it bothers people though, so I'm not changing now. Haha

@@HikeIntoTheSunset Don't change dude, ham-Ock, ham-Ick, ham-Uck, they're all fine. In any case the English word comes from Spanish "hamaca", which in turn comes from the Taino indigenous language of the Greater Antilles, and no one really knows how they pronounced it. In fact, it's still unclear if their "hamaca" referred to the actual sling hung between the trees, or if they were referring to the fishing net material that the sling was made from.
